According to the assessment of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Long An province, saline intrusion in the 2024-2025 dry season will not affect people's agricultural production. In the 2024-2025 dry season, saltwater will begin to intrude into the Rach Cat and Vam Co rivers from mid-December 2024. The time of saline intrusion is similar to the same period in the 2023-2024 dry season, with salinity measured on the Rach Cat, Vam Co, Vam Co Dong, Vam Co Tay, and Song Tra rivers ranging from 0.2-16.1 grams/liter (g/l), lower than the same period in 2024 from 0.3-11g/l.

Specifically, on the Vam Co Dong River , the salinity of 1.0g/l appeared furthest past Xang Lon Bridge, Ben Luc District (1.1g/l), about 76km from the mouth of the Soai Rap River (compared to the same period in 2024, the salinity of 1.0g/l was about 130km from the Soai Rap River (Duc Hue Bridge, Duc Hue District). The salinity of 4.0g/l appeared furthest to Ong Binh sluice, Can Duoc District (4.0g/l), about 48km from the Soai Rap River (compared to the same period in 2024, the salinity of 4.0g/l was about 88km from the Soai Rap River (An Ha Bridge, Duc Hoa District).

The salinity of 4.0g/l appeared furthest past Song Cui sluice, Chau Thanh district (5.7g/l), about 42km from Soai Rap river (compared to the same period in 2024, the salinity of 4.0g/l was about 114km from Soai Rap river (Vam Lon canal, Thanh Hoa district).

According to the salinity forecast bulletin for the downstream area of Long An province by the provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the salinity boundary of 1.0g/l penetrates more than 81km deep into the fields in the Vam Co Tay River (Ward 1 and Ward 5, Tan An City) and more than 85km in the Vam Co Dong River (Thanh Loi and Luong Binh communes, Ben Luc district).

The 4.0g/l salinity boundary is forecast to penetrate more than 56km deep into the fields in the Vam Co Tay River (Phuoc Tan Hung Commune, Chau Thanh District; Duc Tan Commune, Tan Tru District); and more than 58km in the Vam Co Dong River (Long Cang Commune, Can Duoc District; Tan Binh Commune, Tan Tru District).

Now officially entering the rainy season of 2025, the saline intrusion situation on the two rivers Vam Co Dong and Vam Co Tay has basically no longer affected the water source for production and daily life of the people./.
