Although the company did not announce the price, Zipse described this model as belonging to the "unprecedentedly high-priced" segment. Some inside sources revealed that the price of the 2025 BMW Speedtop could be up to about $500,000 (VND 13.1 billion). This special edition BMW Speedtop is developed from the 8 Series coupe, but has a unique shooting brake design, this is a two-door wagon with an extended roof and extended rear end.
The Speedtop is the second model in a line of special projects based on the BMW 8 Series that BMW unveiled at Villa d'Este. In 2024, the company introduced the Skytop - a two-door coupe with a targa top, of which only 50 were produced. While the BMW Speedtop is more numerous, both are still extremely rare and almost impossible to see outside of events like Monterey Car Week. It shares much of the same design language as the Skytop, with slim headlights and a distinctive “shark nose” front end. The Speedtop's hood has a distinctive central crease, but it continues all the way to the rear of the car. At the sides, strong creases extend from the headlights to the taillights. The main difference between the Speedtop and the Skytop lies in the roof, which extends all the way back to create a wagon-like silhouette.
The Speedtop's cabin is almost identical to the Skytop, which is based on the 8 Series. The Speedtop features a two-tone interior with Sundown Maroon leather on the dashboard, center console, and door uppers; and Moonstone White leather on the seats and door lowers. A thin strip of light integrated into the roof echoes the exterior lines, and “Speedtop” badges are scattered throughout the cabin as a reminder of just how special this car is. The Speedtop’s luggage compartment is as well-finished as the passenger compartment, with premium leather upholstery and soft LED ambient lighting. The Speedtop has no rear seats, but instead has two storage compartments with leather straps to secure luggage. BMW has collaborated with Italian leather goods brand Schedoni to create a bespoke set of bags to match these compartments. BMW hasn’t revealed much about the Speedtop’s powertrain, only saying it’s powered by “BMW’s most powerful V8 engine ever.”
Based on information from Skytop, it is likely that the Speedtop has a twin-turbocharged 4.4L V8 engine with a maximum capacity of 617 horsepower, 2-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic transmission. While the original Skytop was limited to just 50 units, BMW Speedtop will produce 70 Speedtops and all of the cars sold have already found their owners.
