Tran Thi Phuong Thao (born in 2000, residing in Huynh Cong Dong village, Trung Nam commune, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province) is one of three new female recruits from Vinh Linh district preparing to join the army this year.

The special thing about this new female soldier is that she accepted to quit a job with an income that many people dream of to volunteer to join the army. For Phuong Thao, that decision was both to improve herself and to continue the family tradition.

Tran Thi Phuong Thao's grandfather was a soldier who participated in the resistance war and participated in the Dien Bien Phu battle. Thao's father, Tran Trong Thien, joined the army in 1983 and was trained in the Air Defense - Air Force. After completing his service, Thien returned to Huynh Cong Dong village (Trung Nam commune) to work in production.

After graduating from the University of Agriculture and Forestry - Hue University, Tran Thi Phuong Thao was hired as a manager at a large farm in Binh Phuoc province. Although she had just graduated and had no experience, the salary Thao received was quite high, making many people dream.

With an average income of 18 million VND/month, Tran Thi Phuong Thao can not only send 4 million VND/month to her younger sister who is also studying at the University of Agriculture and Forestry - Hue University, but can also send money back home to help her parents every month.

However, in October 2023, Tran Thi Phuong Thao suddenly quit her job and volunteered to join the army. At the end of January 2024, Thao received a call-up order for citizens to join the army. The decision surprised Thao's parents, but they still respected and supported her.

Mr. Tran Trong Thien (father of new recruit Tran Thi Phuong Thao) shared that he himself was once a soldier and more than anyone else, he understands the good things that the military environment can bring to his daughter. Although Thao quitting a job with a salary that is the dream of many people in the countryside, Mr. Thien and his wife always support their daughter to join the army and encourage Thao to fulfill her duties as a soldier.

According to Tran Thi Phuong Thao, the reason she volunteered to join the army was because she was young and wanted to join the army to test herself, train herself, and fulfill her duties as a citizen.

" When I received the call-up notice, I was very happy. Before Tet, I visited my grandparents, relatives and neighbors to prepare myself mentally before leaving for the army. In the military environment, I will try my best to study to complete the assigned tasks well, " Tran Thi Phuong Thao shared.

Also joining the army this time in Vinh Linh district (Quang Tri) are two other female recruits, Le Thi Kim Oanh (born 2001, residing in Hien Thanh commune) and Luu Thi Ngoc Ha (born 2001, residing in Vinh Long commune).

In particular, Le Thi Kim Oanh's case has a bright future when she just graduated from the University of Law - Hue University in June 2023 and was accepted to work at a Law Office in Hue City.

However, with the desire to train herself in a military environment, Le Thi Kim Oanh quit her job and volunteered to join the army.

Oanh is the third child in a family of four siblings. Oanh's younger brother also just joined the army in 2023. Although surprised by Oanh's decision to join the army, the family respects and supports her.

Le Thi Kim Oanh shared that this is the most suitable time for her to realize her long-cherished dream of becoming a soldier in the Vietnam People's Army.

" I see myself as young and the army is the best environment for me to train, contribute and mature, so I decided to volunteer to join the army, " Le Thi Kim Oanh shared.

As planned, on February 26, localities in Quang Tri will simultaneously organize military enlistment ceremonies for 2024.
