New regulations on health screening for workers going to Japan to work

According to the Department of Overseas Labor Management, the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam said that according to regulations, tuberculosis patients are not allowed to enter Japan.

Currently, Japan has initiated a “pre-entry tuberculosis screening” regime for foreigners from some countries with high rates of tuberculosis (including Vietnam) who plan to come to Japan for medium- and long-term stays.

According to this regulation, Vietnamese workers must undergo tuberculosis tests such as chest X-rays before entering the country at health facilities designated by Japan and present documents proving that they are not infected with tuberculosis. Only those who are granted a certificate of non-tuberculosis by designated health facilities are allowed to enter Japan. (See the list of medical facilities designated by Japan here).

Expected implementation time from September 1, 2025, subjects subject to "pre-entry TB screening" must have a certificate of no TB when applying for residence status and visa.

It is expected that from May 26, 2025, designated health examination facilities will receive TB examinations and issue TB-free certificates. List of health examination facilities designated by Japan. In addition to TB examinations, other health examination contents other than the above TB examination items will continue to be performed normally at other medical facilities according to regulations of the Vietnamese side.
