Provincial Party Secretary - Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Ho Thi Hoang Yen and representatives of press agencies and departments visited veteran journalist Le Chi Nhan.

Respect the truth

Veteran journalist Le Chi Nhan - former Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, this year, he has turned 96 years old, but still tells people that he is only 69. Despite his old age, when asked about his memories of his time as a journalist, he still remembers them clearly as if it were just yesterday. Those were the years of working as a journalist during the resistance war under the rain of bombs and bullets, he and his colleagues faced the line between life and death every day, the journalist at that time still held his pen firmly, sticking close to the battlefield. That was when he overcame the enemy's chemical spraying, using his pen to write about the heavy devastation that our people had to endure - as evidence to denounce the enemy's crimes. Those were also the years after liberation, when journalists joined hands to build their homeland. They still used their pens to fight for the historical truth of the revolutionary struggle of their homeland that could never be different.

As for veteran journalist Le Chi Nhan, he is like a tireless bird, tirelessly writing articles and books, recording 14 manuscripts of nearly 7,000 pages of writing as documents. Especially the book "The Legend of Dong Khoi Homeland" of nearly 600 pages has affirmed and clarified the historical values of the Dong Khoi uprising in Ben Tre .

In a message to the current generation of journalists, Mr. Le Chi Nhan confided: “The most important thing for a journalist is the truth. Even if you offend someone, you must respect and tell the truth so that people will respect that “pen”. The journey of journalism is always full of hardships that journalists must overcome. That is the profession of journalism, you must ensure: Truth! Truth! Truth!”.

Courage to do the job

During the arduous years of resistance journalism, generations of enthusiastic Ben Tre revolutionary journalists were forged. Journalist Tran Quoc Viet - former Director of Ben Tre Radio and Television Station has been involved in the profession since the resistance years. He and his colleagues went through the arduous but heroic years. This is something that he is extremely proud of. He said: An article, a photo, information during wartime to reach readers must be exchanged a lot. When journalists go to the battlefield, sacrifice is an immediate thing. But Ben Tre journalists at that time were full of enthusiasm for their profession. That is what he feels extremely proud of.

“In the past, our generation lacked the means to work during the war, and today, it is not easy for young people. Even though they have modern means and are well-educated, society is more complex, diverse and full of traps. Some journalists have quit their jobs or violated the law because they could not overcome those traps. I want to remind journalists today to pay attention and grasp the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws in order to work. Fighting negativity towards journalists is a responsibility that must be done and must be done thoroughly. To do so, journalists need to have courage, put it into their articles, and do something to help the Party and the State become stronger; legal agencies have a basis to handle it clearly and help people be more excited, more confident in the Party and in the truth, then that is revolutionary journalism,” journalist Tran Quoc Viet wishes.

Take advantage of new space to grow

Generations of provincial journalists have always strived to be worthy of the generations of provincial journalists throughout the journey of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism as well as local journalism. From the hardships to today when all types of journalism from print, radio, television to electronic newspapers have developed strongly, journalists are ready to enter a new era.

Commenting on this situation, journalist Le Minh Tri (Minh Tran) - former Editor-in-Chief of Dong Khoi Newspaper shared: In the era of modern multi-platform, multi-field journalism and modern science and technology, provincial journalists have more room than before. Therefore, journalists need to work flexibly on multiple platforms, and have the responsibility to guide public opinion to carry out local tasks. Especially when social networks develop strongly, the mainstream press has more responsibility to guide public opinion in the right direction. Therefore, journalists today have an even more important task, associated with civic duty, social responsibility and professional responsibility. Young journalists need to have more aspirations, improve their knowledge, continue to promote traditions and take advantage of modern science and technology to do their job well.
