( Bqp.vn ) – At the invitation of General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense , Lieutenant General Khrenin Viktor Gennadievich, Minister of National Defense of Belarus led a high-ranking delegation of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense to pay an official visit to Vietnam and attend the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024.

On the morning of December 17, at the Ministry of National Defense Headquarters, General Phan Van Giang chaired the official welcoming ceremony for Lieutenant General Khrenin Viktor Gennadievich and the high-ranking delegation of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense.

Attending the welcoming ceremony were Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; and leaders of agencies and units under the Ministry of National Defense.

After the official welcoming ceremony, the two Ministers held talks. At the talks, welcoming Lieutenant General Khrenin Viktor Gennadievich on his official visit to Vietnam and attending the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that the Vietnamese people and the Vietnam People's Army always remember and appreciate the great support and assistance that the people of the former Soviet Union, including the Republic of Belarus, have given to Vietnam in the struggle for national liberation and reunification.

Assessing the bilateral cooperation in recent times, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that Vietnam - Belarus defense cooperation has been effectively implemented, in line with the overall traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries and signed international treaties and agreements, achieving many positive results. General Phan Van Giang expressed his hope that in the coming time, in the spirit of the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Belarus, the two sides will continue to coordinate and promote the effective implementation of the agreed contents, focusing on areas such as: Delegation exchange; cooperation in training military medicine, military history, military media; continuing to support and send delegations to participate in international multilateral activities organized by each side...

General Phan Van Giang suggested that the Belarusian Ministry of Defense study and continue to provide free and preferential scholarships for Vietnamese soldiers at training facilities of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense. The Vietnamese Ministry of Defense is ready to welcome Belarusian soldiers to attend Vietnamese language courses at the Academy of Military Sciences and defense officials classes at the National Defense Academy. Thereby, contributing to promoting the defense cooperation between the two countries to develop more strongly, in depth, practically and effectively.

At the talks, the two sides also discussed the world and regional situation and issues of mutual concern. Regarding maritime issues, General Phan Van Giang affirmed that Vietnam's consistent stance is to resolve disputes by peaceful means, on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon complete the signing of a substantive, effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law.

For his part, Lieutenant General Khrenin Viktor Gennadievich thanked General Phan Van Giang and the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for their warm welcome to the delegation. Lieutenant General Khrenin Viktor Gennadievich expressed his high agreement with the issues discussed and proposed by the two sides to enhance bilateral defense cooperation; affirming that the Belarusian Ministry of Defense will direct close coordination with the Vietnamese side to effectively implement the work agreed upon by the two Ministries of Defense, contributing to promoting the increasingly developing Belarus-Vietnam relationship. On this occasion, Lieutenant General Khrenin Viktor Gennadievich respectfully invited General Phan Van Giang to officially visit Belarus and attend the Belarus International Defense Exhibition 2025.
