Launching the campaign to prevent child drowning by 2025

DTO - On May 27, at the Cultural - Community Learning Center of Tan Binh commune, the Project Management Board supporting the implementation of effective and sustainable interventions to prevent and combat child drowning in the province coordinated with the People's Committee of Chau Thanh district to organize the Launching Ceremony of the Prevention and Combat of Child Drowning in 2025. Representatives of the Department of Health, socio -political organizations of the province and the People's Committee of Chau Thanh district attended.

In recent years, the work of preventing and combating child injuries, especially drowning prevention, has been implemented by all levels, sectors, units and localities in the province with many solutions related to preventing and combating child water accidents, achieving many positive results. Thereby, contributing to reducing the number of children dying from drowning. Specifically, in the period of 2015 - 2017, the province had 115 children dying from drowning; in the period of 2018 - 2020, it decreased to 69 cases; in the period of 2021 - 2023, it continued to decrease to 56 children dying from drowning. Particularly, from 2024 to now, there have been only 17 cases in the whole province...

In addition, in the period of 2024 - 2025, Dong Thap province continues to be selected to implement the Project to support the implementation of effective and sustainable interventions to prevent and combat child drowning. The project aims to raise awareness in the community, schools and swimming teaching and safe swimming activities for at least 7,000 children aged 6 to 15 in 24 communes of 4 districts: Lap Vo, Lai Vung, Chau Thanh and Tam Nong.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, comrade Lam Thi Ngoc Kim - Deputy Director of the Department of Health , Head of the Project Management Board to support the implementation of effective and sustainable interventions to prevent child drowning in the province, requested that sectors, units, socio-political organizations, and localities continue to coordinate to implement practical and effective solutions and activities to join hands in building a safe and healthy living environment to prevent and combat child drowning...
