On the evening of May 28, in Hanoi, the closing ceremony and awarding ceremony of the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award (WIPO Award) 2024 took place, organized by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations.

Attending the ceremony were comrade Do Van Chien - Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front , Honorary Chairman of the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technical Innovation (VIFOTEC).

The Organizing Committee of the National Science and Technology Innovation Award awarded 42 outstanding works, including 1 work from Bac Lieu province that won the Encouragement Prize.

The work "Application of multi-temporal Sentinel-1 radar remote sensing images in monitoring wind power projects in coastal areas of Bac Lieu province" by Dr. Ngo Duc Khanh and his colleague, Master Pham Tran Thuy Linh - Bac Lieu University, won a national award.

The research of Dr. Ngo Duc Khanh and his colleagues focused on the application of multi-temporal Sentinel-1 radar remote sensing technology. This is a breakthrough method, allowing continuous and accurate image data collection, regardless of weather conditions (rain, fog) or time of day.

Specifically, the European Space Agency's (ESA) Sentinel-1 satellite provides radar images that can penetrate clouds and are not affected by sunlight, providing reliable information about the Earth's surface. The use of "multi-temporal" (ie images taken at different times) allows scientists to monitor changes and developments in construction, especially wind power projects.

This is the second consecutive year that Bac Lieu University has had a project winning the WIPO Award.

The WIPO Award is a prestigious award for research projects that are being effectively applied in practice by scientists across the country.

At the closing and award ceremony, leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology launched the WIPO Prize 2025.
