On August 10, the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health sent a document to the Directors of Health Departments of provinces and cities across the country regarding strengthening the prevention and control of dengue fever.

According to reports from localities , the country has recorded 57,295 cases of dengue fever since the beginning of the year, including 13 deaths. Although the number of cases and deaths has decreased compared to the same period in 2022, the number of cases and deaths has tended to increase in recent weeks, according to the Department of Preventive Medicine.
Currently, it is the epidemic season, the number of weekly cases is forecast to increase in the coming time if drastic measures to prevent and control the epidemic are not implemented.
To proactively implement measures to prevent and control the epidemic, not to let the epidemic break out and spread, and to minimize the number of infections and deaths, the Department of Preventive Medicine requests the Directors of the Departments of Health of provinces and cities to focus on directing the following contents, specifically:
Closely monitor the situation of patients in the area, grasp existing and newly emerging dengue fever outbreaks, thoroughly handle outbreaks as soon as they are detected, and prevent the epidemic from breaking out, spreading, or prolonging.
Organize and implement more strongly environmental sanitation campaigns, mosquito larvae eradication to prevent and control dengue fever in the area and maintain activities once a week in high-risk areas, once every 2 weeks in areas with high mosquito, mosquito larvae/larva indexes and once a month in the remaining areas.
Closely coordinate with the Department of Information and Communications, local media agencies to carry out propaganda activities so that people actively respond to disease prevention measures for individuals and communities, proactively participate in cleaning up waste items containing stagnant water, where larvae and mosquitoes develop, cover tightly and release fish into tanks and containers containing domestic water.
At the same time, provinces and cities need to strengthen the system of staff working on insect prevention and control at the provincial and district levels. Organize active insect surveillance at all levels to detect early areas at risk for timely handling; organize training on patient surveillance, insect surveillance, and outbreak handling for preventive health workers. Provide training on treatment regimens and emergency patient handling for health workers working at all levels.
The Department of Preventive Medicine requested the Department of Health of provinces and cities to direct medical examination and treatment facilities to organize well the admission and treatment of patients, minimize deaths due to dengue fever, especially at private medical examination and treatment facilities, avoid the situation where patients do not receive timely consultation, emergency care, treatment and referral, and at the same time have a plan to allocate treatment routes, support lower levels, and avoid hospital overload.
The Department of Health of provinces and cities organizes working groups to inspect and supervise dengue fever prevention and control work at hotspots and areas at risk of outbreaks in the area, and support lower-level units in disease prevention and control work.
The Department of Health of provinces and cities shall report to the Provincial People's Committee to arrange and supplement funding for dengue fever prevention and control to implement dengue fever prevention and control activities in the province.
