The book was published by Da Nang Publishing House in early 2025.
The book gives readers a general overview of the literary landscape of Southern Vietnam through different periods. While it doesn't mention some of the most important names from this region, it does introduce some prominent figures, including those who were once famous but are now only remembered by specialized researchers.
The articles are arranged in a way that gives the reader an overview, then delves into a rich and diverse range of topics, focusing on subjects and themes often unappealing to academic criticism, such as young adult literature or the genre of memoir, which is now considered "lower class" in literature.
Besides educators with many years of research and teaching experience such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Nhon (editor-in-chief), researcher Doan Le Giang, the book also includes contributions from researchers of the next generation such as Le Thuy Tuong Vy, Phan Manh Hung, Nguyen Thi Truc Bach, Nguyen Ngoc Bao Tram, Ngo Tra Mi, Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong, Nguyen Trung Khoa and Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy.
The book shows that the study of Southern Vietnamese literature is a long-term endeavor, continuing through generations of teachers and students, and there are still many fascinating topics for young researchers to continue exploring, producing new works, and contributing to the painting of a colorful picture of Southern Vietnamese literature.
This illustrates that, transcending common misconceptions about Southern literature, this is a "literary region" with a rich history of development and a wealth of talent contributing to the mainstream of Vietnamese literary history.
Contributing to Southern Literature has not only "contributed a voice" but also opened up new topics and research directions regarding Southern literature.
The work, as Mr. Vo Van Nhon shared, "is our love for Southern literature, a fascinating part of the nation's literature that has not yet received adequate and in-depth research."
Associate Professor Vo Van Nhon has spent many years researching and teaching Vietnamese literature. His book, "Contributing to Southern Literature," is a compilation of 14 research works by him and his colleagues, as well as postgraduate students and undergraduates from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, and Thu Dau Mot University ( Binh Duong ).
