Sharing with VietNamNet reporter on the sidelines of the announcement ceremony of the 2025 Global Vietnamese Singing Contest, Ho Quang 8 said that once when he went to Europe to judge the preliminary round, he was given 100 USD because the contestants saw that the judges worked too hard.
"I firmly refused to accept it, but the contestant said it was money for me to buy fruit to burn incense for his deceased parents. With such sentimental and emotional words, I had to accept it. That was the first and only money I received as a judge in the contest.
Sitting in the hot seat of competitions, contestants give gifts to judges, but I don't accept them. Nowadays, music competitions are broadcast on all platforms, and the audience knows whether the contestants sing well or badly.

When sitting in the hot seat of domestic competitions, Ho Quang 8 said he was often given baked sweet potatoes, and he happily accepted them because they were small things that showed the contestant's affection and homegrown produce.
Singer Ho Quang 8 said that there are too many competitions now, and contestants with high or low prizes still have to find opportunities for themselves.
As a member of the jury of the 2025 Global Vietnamese Singing Contest, famous singer Ý Lan was very emotional. As an artist who grew up and worked in music overseas, Ý Lan always cherished the desire to contribute to nurturing the generation of Vietnamese artists, especially those who carry in their hearts the love for their homeland.
According to the artist, music is not only art but also memory, an invisible connection between Vietnamese people. Therefore, famous singer Ý Lan will judge the contestants who have a delicate performance, especially their own emotions when singing.
"In addition to technique, style and emotion - I pay special attention to the contestants' listening, listening to themselves, listening to the song and listening to the audience's emotions. These are things that cannot be learned overnight but are very valuable if you have them. Music is a language without borders and Global Vietnamese Singing is doing a beautiful job of bringing Vietnamese music beyond geographical space, to every Vietnamese heart".
Famous singer Ý Lan advised contestants not to compare themselves with anyone: "When you learn to love your own voice, even if it's still clumsy, the audience will feel that sincerity. And that's what touches their hearts."
