Schools in Hai Phong decide to let students stay home during storm Matmo

(Dan Tri) - Hai Phong Department of Education and Training allows schools to decide for themselves whether to let students stay home to prevent storm No. 11 (Matmo), with notice before 9:00 p.m. on October 5.

On October 5, according to information from the Department of Education and Training of Hai Phong City, this unit issued an official dispatch requesting schools to closely monitor the developments of storm No. 11 and proactively deploy prevention plans at the highest level. Based on the actual situation, educational institutions decided to let students stay home from school and adjust teaching schedules to ensure the safety of students and teachers.

The Department emphasized that schools must promptly notify parents, teachers, and students before 9 p.m. on October 5 to proactively pick up, manage, and care for them. At the same time, educational units need to arrange storm-duty forces and coordinate with localities to prepare facilities for temporary shelters.

On the same afternoon, the City People's Committee held an online meeting to deploy storm response, chaired by Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Van Quan. Mr. Quan requested that sectors and localities absolutely not be subjective, continue to urgently implement measures to ensure safety of people and property, and minimize damage caused by the storm.

The Border Guard was assigned to call, count, and request all boats and rafts to take shelter before 12 noon on October 5. Other departments were assigned tasks such as checking irrigation systems, evacuating people from dangerous areas, evacuating the elderly and sick, trimming trees, clearing drainage, and preparing rescue vehicles.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the morning of October 5, storm Matmo reached level 12, gusting to level 15, and in the afternoon of the same day, made landfall on Leizhou peninsula (China) before weakening and entering Quang Ninh - Hai Phong in the early morning of October 6 with an intensity of level 9, gusting to level 12, then continued to decrease as it moved further inland.
