In January 2022, the "Godmother" Program was officially launched by the Cam Pha City Women's Union, responding to the policy of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union on supporting orphans, especially children who lost their parents due to the Covid-19 pandemic. From the very beginning, the program has received the attention and support of many organizations, individuals, businesses and women's union members in the area.
To date, the city has sponsored 89 orphans with a total support of nearly 1 billion VND. The support is not only material but also a great source of spiritual encouragement, helping the children to reduce their inferiority complex and deprivation, continue to go to school, and nurture their dreams and ambitions.
Among the sponsored children, many cases have had positive changes in health, study and psychology. A typical example is Nguyen Thi Anh, a 7th grade student in Quang Hanh ward. Nguyen Thi Anh lost her mother at a young age, her father did not have a stable job, and her family's life fell into poverty. But thanks to the long-term help of the "Godmother" Program, Anh's life gradually stabilized. Anh was supported with tuition, books, clothes and even warm conversations like in a real family. "I feel lucky to have someone who loves me like my biological mother. I will try to study well so as not to let my mothers down" - Nguyen Thi Anh emotionally shared.
The “Godmother” program in Cam Pha was implemented in a systematic, flexible and practical manner. The City Women’s Union directed the grassroots associations to review and update the list of orphans in the area, classifying their circumstances to have appropriate support plans. Not only calling for financial sponsorship, the associations at all levels also focused on mobilizing “Godmothers” to spend time caring for, listening to and talking to the children as if they were family members.
Creative and humane models have also been formed from here. The Women's Union of Cam Son Ward maintains a "Love Closet" - where members and residents bring clean, well-used clothes, shoes, and books to give to disadvantaged children for free. The Women's Union of Mong Duong Ward organizes life skills classes and extracurricular activities to help orphans integrate into the community, improve their psychology and build confidence. The Women's Union of Cam Dong Ward also mobilizes members and businesses to organize weekend meals for orphans living with their elderly grandparents, thereby forming a close bond between "mothers" and "children", truly a new family.
Not only stopping at individual support activities, the "Godmother" Program has created motivation for women's associations at all levels to innovate their methods of operation, strengthen the role of connecting the community, and spread a profound humanitarian spirit. The Women's Union of Cam Pha City has proactively integrated the program into emulation movements, such as "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean", "Women help each other develop the economy", "Women actively study, work creatively".
Through the program, many women members have changed their way of thinking and working, actively participating in social activities, becoming a bridge between the community and orphans. Members of the “Godmother” Program are not only compassionate women, but also officials, civil servants, businessmen, teachers, workers, etc., joining hands to spread the message: “No child is left behind”.
The “Godmother” program in Cam Pha City has proven to be effective and a bright spot in the work of caring for children in special circumstances. Many individuals and organizations have been recognized and rewarded for their positive contributions. Moreover, the program has warmed the hearts of dozens of families, especially children who have lost a major support in their lives.
