Nude art photography by photographer Thai Phien always brings a delicate and unique beauty. This is not only recognized by many people through words and writings, but also affirmed through the prestigious awards he has achieved. Thai Phien possesses a special secret to create beautiful nude photos.

Thai Phien believes that nude photographers are like tightrope walkers, where the line between "aesthetics" and "sensuality" is very fragile, and just a small mistake can ruin the entire work. In addition, nude photography also faces psychological prejudice from Eastern people, causing many people to consider nude photography as indecent and nude photographers to be looked down upon. Therefore, the appraisal, licensing of nude photo exhibitions and printing of nude photo books always face many difficulties and strictness from the management. Models are also often hesitant, afraid of being criticized.

However, Thai Phien is still very confident in his work. His photos are completely artistic, arousing curiosity but still maintaining the modesty according to Eastern aesthetic standards. The public who loves nude art can verify this through his nude works.

He also recently held an exhibition of 25 nude yoga works at Stop And Go Art Space (Da Lat). Thai Phien said: “These 25 photos are just a small part of the total 250 photos in the photo series 'Sunshine Behind the Curtain' that I took during the time Ho Chi Minh City was socially distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic”. In this photo series, Thai Phien used natural light and spotlights to create light streaks like sunlight shining through curtains. He exploited basic yoga movements through the artist's delicate perspective, combined with knowledge of physics and mathematics to create quintessential nude photos that express the beauty of yoga art.

With 32 years of experience in nude art photography, Thai Phien confided: To be successful and sustainable with this art form, the artist needs to look at the model with an “aesthetic” eye, not a “sensual” one. Being steadfast in the values of truth - goodness - beauty will help build trust and prestige with models, colleagues, managers and even those who love nude art photography.

According to Thai Phien, nude art photography does not necessarily require young models to have beautiful photos. He believes that the most beautiful age for a model is around 23 years old, plus or minus 3 years. This shows that, besides age, there are many other factors to create a perfect nude art photo.
