Minimize damage caused by drought and pests
Currently, sugarcane in the raw material area of Song Con Sugar Factory is entering the stage of elongation - the stage that determines the yield at the end of the season. However, many farmers are worried about the prolonged hot weather. Along with that, some areas have begun to be infected with stem borers, making sugarcane care even more difficult.

In Hamlet 10, Nghia Dong Commune (Tan Ky), Mr. Nguyen Huu Long's family has been growing sugarcane for more than 12 years. On the 5ha of rented land for cultivation, according to Mr. Long, although this was the third sugarcane crop, the yield still reached 100 tons/ha. Immediately after the harvest, the family rented a tiller to process all the old sugarcane stumps to prepare for new planting with the LK9211 sugarcane variety.
“Like previous years, to keep the soil moist, I rented a machine to raise the base of the soil, combined with weeding, and applied enough NPK fertilizer so that the sugarcane has enough nutrients to grow. Knowing that some sugarcane areas in the area have stem borers, I am present in the sugarcane fields every day to check, if there is a phenomenon of sugarcane being infected with worms, I will handle it immediately” - Mr. Long said.
Many other sugarcane growers in the raw material areas of Tan Ky, Con Cuong, Anh Son, Yen Thanh, etc. are also applying synchronous technical solutions to maintain stable productivity. According to Mr. Nguyen Sy Hai - Head of Raw Material Department of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, this year, although the summer weather is sunny, there are also scattered rains, which helps to limit the drying out situation. In addition, farmers have actively invested in care, so many sugarcane areas have grown evenly and healthily.
Mr. Hai recommends: “To improve production efficiency, sugarcane growers need to apply underground plowing techniques during soil preparation, which helps break down the perennial cultivation layer, increasing water and nutrient retention. In addition, it is necessary to focus on removing old leaves and cleaning weeds to keep the sugarcane fields airy and limit pests and diseases.”

Faced with the scattered appearance of stem borers, the Company has directed technical staff to guide farmers in using pesticides according to the correct procedures, with specific dosages and times of use, to effectively prevent and control the disease while ensuring safety for crops, the environment and users.
To effectively prevent sugarcane borers, according to the recommendations of the Plant Protection Department, commonly used granular pesticides are Diaphos 10H, Ga Noi 4G, Sago Super 3G with a dosage of 30kg/ha. In addition, it is also possible to use pesticides that are sprayed evenly on sugarcane 2-3 times from when the sugarcane sprouts until it has 4-5 internodes, which is also effective. For sugarcane with roots, it is also possible to spread around the roots or mix water and spray on the plants.
Ready for new pressing
In addition to stabilizing and improving the productivity of raw material areas, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company is also actively preparing for the 2025 - 2026 sugarcane pressing season. It is expected that in early November this year, the factory will officially start the production line.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Quy - Deputy Director of the Company said: "Currently, the entire production line is being thoroughly maintained and repaired. Mechanical, electrical and automation teams are working continuously to ensure that all equipment operates stably when entering the pressing season".

Not only the machinery system in the factory, the fleet of sugarcane transport vehicles - an important step in the production chain, is also prepared, ready to sign a contract with the factory, transporting sugarcane from the field to the factory in time.
Notably, since the previous crop year, the factory has invested in upgrading the sugar boiler with more modern technology, thereby significantly increasing product quality, meeting market standards, creating trust with consumers. Current capacity reaches 3,300 tons of sugarcane per day - the highest level in the region.
Clearly identifying sugarcane growers as the “extended arm” of the enterprise, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company always focuses on the policy of accompanying and closely linking with farmers. Throughout the production process, the Company coordinates with local authorities in raw material districts to promote propaganda, technical guidance, support for seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc. to help people feel secure in production.
The total area of raw material areas is currently stable at over 5,000 hectares - a number of special significance in the context of many places converting sugarcane land to other crops. This shows that the harmonious relationship between enterprises and farmers is clearly effective, ensuring stable output and increasing income.
In addition, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company also focuses on investing in upgrading infrastructure to serve production, especially internal raw material routes to facilitate transportation and reduce costs. In addition, training programs, support for sugarcane growers, product consumption, etc. continue to be implemented synchronously, strengthening the trust and attachment of sugarcane growers to the enterprise.
The effective practice of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company shows that when businesses and farmers work together and share risks and benefits, the sugar industry can develop sustainably.
