Gia Binh Airport ( Bac Ninh ) is planned to be a "dual-use" international airport for civil and defense, with a scale of about 1,960 hectares with two runways of 3,500 - 4,000 m, a capacity of 30 million passengers by 2030 and towards 50 million passengers by 2050.

Currently, the project has begun leveling and building the first phase of technical infrastructure for construction.

Machinery and equipment have been operating continuously over the past few days to construct the site.

The project is expected to connect by highway and urban railway, becoming a new aviation gateway to the North, next to Noi Bai airport. The total investment is about 196,000 billion VND (equivalent to 7.5 billion USD), of which the capital for the 2021-2030 period is about 161,600 billion VND; the project is implemented according to the model combining state capital and PPP.

With a construction scale of 1,960 hectares, Gia Binh airport has the largest area in the North, surpassing the two current international airports Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat (about 1,500 hectares) and only behind Long Thanh airport (about 5,000 hectares).

When put into operation, Gia Binh airport has a designed capacity of up to 50 million passengers/year. This will be a new aviation gateway, sharing pressure with Noi Bai airport (Hanoi) and expanding international connections for the entire key economic region of the North.

The planning target for the 2021-2030 period is a 4E airport (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO) with a capacity of about 30 million passengers/year and 1.6 million tons of cargo/year; operating B777, B787, A350, A321 aircraft and other special-purpose aircraft.

The total land area expected to be recovered to implement the Gia Binh International Airport Project is about 1,884.88 hectares; of which, residential land is 159.4 hectares; agricultural land is 1,184.78 hectares; non-agricultural land is 415.9 hectares; land used for defense and security purposes is 124.8 hectares.

In addition, about 7,100 households, individuals and 118 organizations; of which about 5,800 households and individuals must relocate and resettle in the project.

It is expected that the site clearance for agricultural land will be completed no later than November 30, 2025, and the resettlement land area before December 15, 2025.

Mr. Do Dinh Huu, Director of the Land Fund Development Center of Bac Ninh province, said that up to now, Bac Ninh province has paid and advanced compensation and supported site clearance for more than 750 hectares (including 600 new hectares and 150 previous hectares), equivalent to more than 2,500 billion VND.

People of Gia Binh, Nhan Thang and Luong Tai communes received payment, advance compensation and support for site clearance for Gia Binh airport construction.

The payment was carried out safely and transparently, receiving the support and consensus of the people. With a large amount of disbursement, security and order were strictly implemented; the stages of reception, counting, checking and disbursement were carried out synchronously, creating convenience for the people.
The Ministry of Construction approved the adjustment of the Gia Binh International Airport Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, Gia Binh Airport has the location and function of an international airport, shared for civil, security and defense purposes, and will be implemented in two phases. In the period 2021-2030, the airport is planned to have an aircraft parking lot in the passenger terminal and cargo terminal area to accommodate about 81 parking positions. Vision to 2050, the aircraft parking lot around the passenger terminal and cargo terminal area will be expanded to accommodate about 123 parking positions; reserve for expansion when needed. The passenger terminal for the 2021-2030 period is planned to the northeast of the VIP terminal with a capacity of about 30 million passengers/year, with a vision to 2050 to be expanded to meet a capacity of about 50 million passengers/year. The cargo terminal is planned in the area east of the passenger terminal, meeting the capacity of about 1.6 million tons of cargo/year in the period of 2021-2030; with a vision to 2050, it will be expanded to meet the capacity of about 2.5 million tons/year. | |
