
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 6 hours (from 1:00 to 7:00 on May 23), the mountainous provinces in the North have had moderate rain, heavy rain, and some places have had very heavy rain such as: Pac Ma 119.4 mm (Lai Chau); Phong Hai 122 mm (Lao Cai); An Lac 131.8 mm (Yen Bai); Tan Trinh 92.8 mm ( Ha Giang ); Phuc Yen 193.8 mm (Tuyen Quang);... The soil moisture model shows that some areas in the above provinces are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached a saturated state.
The meteorological agency warned that in the next 3-6 hours, the above provinces will continue to have rain with rainfall ranging from 30-60 mm, in some places over 90 mm. In the next 66 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes in many localities.
The districts and cities that have been warned are: Muong Te, Nam Nhun, Phong Tho, Sin Ho, Tam Duong, Tan Uyen, Than Uyen, Lai Chau City (Lai Chau); Bac Ha, Bao Thang, Bao Yen, Bat Xat, Lao Cai City, Sa Pa Town, Van Ban (Lao Cai); Luc Yen, Yen Bai City, Tran Yen, Van Yen, Yen Binh (Yen Bai); Bac Me, Bac Quang, Quang Binh, Vi Xuyen (Ha Giang); Chiem Hoa, Ham Yen, Lam Binh, Na Hang, Tuyen Quang City, Yen Son (Tuyen Quang); Ha Hoa (Phu Tho); Ba Be, Cho Don, Ngan Son, Pac Nam ( Bac Kan ).
Mr. Nguyen Anh Nam, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, threaten people's lives; cause local traffic congestion, affect the movement of vehicles; destroy civil and economic works, causing damage to production, economic and social activities.
The meteorological agency recommends that local authorities pay attention to reviewing bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to take preventive and response measures. Authorities and people need to proactively monitor real-time warning information on areas at risk of flash floods and landslides provided online on the website of the Department of Hydrometeorology at: https://luquetsatlo.nchmf.gov.vn and in separate bulletins warning of flash floods and landslides.
