On August 31, a representative of the Traffic Police Department (PC08) of Ho Chi Minh City Police predicted that after the holiday (September 3), the traffic volume from neighboring provinces and cities returning to Ho Chi Minh City for work and study will increase dramatically, especially on national highways and expressways connecting the Southeast - Southwest regions.
In addition, the city is currently implementing many construction projects on exploited roads such as Binh Trieu 1 Bridge on National Highway 13; Tan Van intersection (Tan Van - Nhon Trach section) of the Ring Road 3 project; An Phu intersection; My Thuy intersection; ... greatly affecting the traffic activities of people passing through these areas.
Expected hotspots include: An Suong and An Lac intersections, Dong Nai bridge, My Thuy intersection, An Phu intersection, Ring Road 3, key underpass and overpass areas, and ferries in the city.
To limit prolonged traffic congestion and ensure a safe and convenient journey back to Ho Chi Minh City, authorities recommend that people proactively choose a suitable departure time and refer to the alternative routes in each direction below:
1. East direction (Dong Nai - Old Ba Ria-Vung Tau → Ho Chi Minh City)
1.1. From Vung Tau, old Ba Ria to Ho Chi Minh City (central area):
- Route 01: National Highway 51 → Vo Nguyen Giap Street (Bien Hoa) → National Highway 1K → Ho Chi Minh City (via Dong Nai Bridge).
- Route 02: National Highway 51 → turn onto National Highway 56 (Long Khanh) → National Highway 1 (Dau Giay) → Ho Chi Minh City (helps avoid traffic jams on Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway).
- Route 03: Vung Tau / Long Thanh → Nhon Trach → Nhon Trach Bridge → Ring Road 3 → HLD expressway interchange → Ho Chi Minh City.
+ From Vung Tau Express Ferry Terminal - Ho Chi Minh City:
- From Vung Tau Express Ferry Terminal (1A Tran Phu, Vung Tau Ward, HCMC) to Bach Dang Ferry Terminal (10B Ton Duc Thang, Saigon Ward, HCMC).
+ Vung Tau ferry terminal (Vung Tau - Can Gio):
- From Vung Tau ferry - Binh Khanh ferry: from Vung Tau ferry → Tac Xuat street → Luong Van Nho street → Rung Sac street → Binh Khanh ferry.
1.2. From Dong Nai (Bien Hoa, Trang Bom, Long Khanh) to Ho Chi Minh City:
- Route 1: National Highway 1A → Dong Nai Bridge → Hanoi Highway → Thu Duc Ward (old Thu Duc City).
- Route 2: National Highway 56 → National Highway 1 (Dau Giay) → Vung Tau intersection → National Highway 1K → Ho Chi Minh City (avoid the expressway).
2. North direction (Old Binh Duong - Old Binh Phuoc → Ho Chi Minh City)
2.1. From old Binh Duong:
- Route 1: DT743 → My Phuoc - Tan Van → Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway (via An Phu intersection) → Ho Chi Minh City.
- Route 2: DT743 → National Highway 1 (Song Than intersection) → Pham Van Dong → Ho Chi Minh City (avoid Binh Trieu bridge).
2.2. From old Binh Phuoc:
- Route 1: National Highway 14 → Ben Cat town → My Phuoc - Tan Van → National Highway 1 → Ho Chi Minh City.
- Route 2: National Highway 13 → Thu Dau Mot → So Sao intersection → National Highway 1K (through Dong Nai) → Ho Chi Minh City (helps reduce the load on National Highway 13, Binh Trieu bridge section).
3. South direction (Western provinces → Ho Chi Minh City)
- Route 01: National Highway 60 → Rach Mieu Bridge → National Highway 1 (old Tien Giang) → Trung Luong - Ho Chi Minh City Expressway → Cho Dem Intersection → Ho Chi Minh City.
- Route 02: National Highway 60 → Co Chien Bridge → National Highway 53 → National Highway 1 (Vinh Long) → My Thuan - Trung Luong Expressway → Ho Chi Minh City (detour but more open, reducing the risk of congestion).
Proactively choosing a reasonable time frame and considering alternative routes not only helps people shorten travel time, ensuring their own safety, but also contributes to reducing the load on the urban traffic system. The cooperation of each traffic participant will be an important factor in helping the journey back after the holiday to be safer, more civilized and more convenient.
