(Baothanhhoa.vn) - The Standing Office of the Command for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control of Thanh Hoa province has issued a quick report on the damage caused by the thunderstorms that occurred last afternoon and night, July 19.

According to statistics up to 7:00 a.m. on July 20, thunderstorms had caused 23 houses to have their roofs blown off, 1 house to be partially damaged; 3 offices in Muong Lat commune and Hac Thanh ward had their roofs damaged; 11 low-voltage electric poles were broken; many trees were uprooted and 2 cars were severely damaged.

Localities and units continue to review and summarize the damage; at the same time, deploy handling measures and provide guidance on overcoming the consequences. Regarding the power system, affected communes have contacted electricity and telecommunications units to coordinate in handling the incident. Households with damaged roofs or houses have been evacuated to ensure safety.

Previously, from the afternoon of July 19 to the early morning of July 20, Thanh Hoa province experienced showers and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 10-40mm. Some places recorded heavier rain such as Co Lung (89mm), Phu Le (77.6mm), Thanh Son (74.8mm). During the thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind of level 7-8 were recorded at Nga Son meteorological station and Thanh Hoa meteorological station.

According to the forecast of the provincial hydrometeorological station, from July 21, the sea area of Thanh Hoa will have strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8; then increasing to level 8-9, gusting to level 10-11, rough seas, waves 2-4m high.

On land and along the coast, winds are forecast to gradually increase to level 6, gusting to level 7; inland, level 5-6, gusting to level 7. There is a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying areas and urban areas.

Ngoc Lien Commune mobilized forces to clear the incident of broken trees obstructing traffic.

* In Hac Thanh ward: The thunderstorm that occurred on the evening of July 19 caused many large trees to fall, crushed several cars, many roofs and billboards were blown away, affecting traffic.

In particular, at the intersection of Le Loi Avenue and Hac Thanh Street, a large metal roof collapsed due to the wind, crushing many cars, causing a local traffic jam. Immediately after the incident, the authorities at the scene promptly took measures to divert and regulate traffic.

Heavy rain and wind blew off the corrugated iron roof of a building and it fell on Le Loi Avenue, Hac Thanh Ward.

According to preliminary damage statistics, in the whole ward, there were about 50 trees blown over by strong winds, uprooted and broken branches. Of these, 16 trees that fell across the road were handled. The Dong Nam landfill was covered with a tarp covering an area of about 400 square meters . Along with that, about 50 positions supporting the Bauhinia flowers on Nguyen Hoang Street, 10 electrical cabinets, many national flags, Party flags, crane symbols and the inscriptions on the flagpole at Lam Son Square were tilted and peeled off.

At the locations where the incidents occurred, the People's Committee of Hac Thanh Ward has been directing units to deploy, overcome the damage, and soon stabilize urban order and environmental sanitation without affecting the lives and activities of the people.

* In Son Thuy commune, according to a quick report from the Commune Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Disaster Prevention, 49 households in 7/11 villages were affected. Of these, 5 households suffered severe damage to their houses (over 50% of their roofs were blown off), and some houses were partially damaged.

The most severely damaged areas were Hiet, Coc and Chung Son villages. Local authorities urgently evacuated a family of four in Coc village to a safe shelter.

The commune's disaster prevention force organized a 24/7 duty, ready to respond, ensuring safety for the people.
