Music story: "Why did you rush into getting married?"

During a meeting, poet Thu Bon excitedly read: “She said/ - Whoever finds the Diêu Bông leaf/ From now on I will call him my husband” . Musician Tran Tien was surprised and asked about the author of that poem and learned that it was the work “Lã Diêu Bông” by poet Hoang Cam. So the idea popped into his head and he started writing the song “Sao em no vay đi chồng” with the Northern folk melody. That time was 1990.

That year, the song was awarded by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for its compositions promoting the Population - Family Planning movement (a movement sponsored by the United Nations). He shared: “This is a propaganda song. At that time, I had to write propaganda so that people would not rush to love, not rush to marry, and not rush to have children, so that they could devote all their energy to building the country.”

Because of that thought, he borrowed the folk song "The yellow butterfly lands on the candleberry fruit/ The earlier you get married, the sadder the lullaby becomes" to write the first part of the song: "The sad lullaby sounds immense, immense, behind the bamboo fence of the village, making my heart flutter/ The day you got married, you passed the dike/ The dike wore down the grass path, a yellow butterfly flew after you/ The yellow butterfly has already landed on the candleberry fruit/ Why get married early, to make the lullaby even sadder?" .

When it was released, the song spread so quickly that even the author was surprised. “Sao em no vo li chong” has been performed by many singers such as Quang Ly, Ngoc Tan, Thu Hien, Trung Duc, Tran Thu Ha, Quang Linh, Manh Dinh, Nhu Quynh... Until now, the song is still loved by many generations of the public.
