In recent times, departments and organizations of Chanh Nghia ward have coordinated to take good care of people's lives, especially the elderly in difficult circumstances.

Generate capital, increase income

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, in Quarter 9, Chanh Nghia Ward, Thu Dau Mot City, is over 60 years old but still has to sell lottery tickets to support her four grandchildren. Her family's economy is unstable, and Ms. Lien herself is often sick. Understanding her difficult situation, the Board of Directors of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club (LTHTGN) helped Ms. Lien's family borrow money to open a breakfast shop in front of her house. Currently, Ms. Lien's family life has gradually stabilized.

In addition to Ms. Lien, the LTHTGN Club of Chanh Nghia Ward also helps nearly 230 members (the elderly) borrow capital to do small business and develop their family economy. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu's household in Ward 1 is a poor household, seriously ill, and her family's economy is always lacking. Ms. Thu said: "Thanks to participating in the capital support group and the association's loans, I have been able to raise my two children to study and have money for medical treatment. During my serious illness, the association also bought me a health insurance card and provided me with regular medical check-ups.

The entire Chanh Nghia ward currently has 2 LTHTGN Clubs, with 108 members who are the elderly, poor households, and near-poor households. Since its establishment (2018) until now, the clubs have always focused on creating capital sources and increasing income for members.

Ms. Ninh Thi Thu Huong, President of the Association of the Elderly, Head of the LTHTGN Club, said that after borrowing 30 million VND from a benefactor, the management board disbursed 3 million VND/person to 10 disadvantaged members. The first month, the income was 3.2 million VND/person. After that, the management board continued to consider other disadvantaged members to borrow and rotate. Up to now, from the initial loan capital plus monthly interest and support from members, the capital has increased to 53 million VND, helping 59 members borrow capital for small businesses and develop their family economy.

“Realizing that this is a good way, the club also established 2 more capital rotation groups, with members voluntarily contributing from 1 to 2 million VND/member. From the initial contribution, up to now, the rotation groups have supported 168 members with loans for planting, raising livestock, production and business with a total amount of more than 1.6 billion VND,” Ms. Huong added.

Health care

Not only helping each other develop the economy, members of the club also receive advice, primary health care, and regular medical check-ups. Ms. Nguyen Thi My, a club member, has a disability in her hand. After a period of being helped, she shared: “Living in the club, I find life more meaningful. Every day we practice physical exercises, we also get to chat, share joys and sorrows, so our health, spirit, and love of life are better.”

In order to facilitate activities to help and care for the elderly at home, the elderly who are weak and living alone, the elderly who are sick and bedridden and cannot go to the hospital regularly, the Club cooperates with Tin Duc Hospital, Sai Gon Binh Duong Hospital, and the inter-ward health station to organize consultations and provide useful information and knowledge about nutrition and regular health care. The Club cooperates with Tin Duc Hospital to organize monthly pick-up and drop-off services for members to participate in general examinations, chronic diseases, and provide free medicine to 5,600 members. In addition, volunteers in the Club also donated 5,600 boxes of milk, 5,600 boxes of sticky rice, and drinking water to members after the tests were completed.

In particular, since the establishment of the LTHTGN Club model, volunteers have coordinated to help 36 cases of home care. On the occasion of Tet, club members gave gifts to 100 disadvantaged members, each worth 500,000 VND. The club mobilized the Ward Fatherland Front Committee to monthly support 100kg of rice to 3 members with mild disabilities, 2 members raising 5 orphaned children and 5 sick members.

Through practical activities, the LTHTGN Club of Chanh Nghia ward not only contributes to improving the quality of life of poor and near-poor households but also enhances the effectiveness of the emulation movement "Old age - bright example", helping the elderly have more joy in life.

The LTHTGN Club is very practical, suitable for the needs and psychology of the elderly. Since joining, I have proactively changed myself, behaved more tolerantly with my children and grandchildren, and shared the pressures of modern life. In particular, when joining the Club, members are also taught knowledge to know how to take care of themselves."
