When entering the field to warm up for the match against Minnesota United on June 2 in the US Major League Soccer (MLS), Seattle Sounders players all wore T-shirts with the words "Club World Cash Grab".

This slogan means "Club World Cup - Seizing Prize Money", it is like a protest against the way the prize money is divided at the 2025 Club World Cup which will start on June 14 in the US.

Seattle Sounders, Messi's Inter Miami and Los Angeles FC are the three US representatives at the tournament. According to the rules, each participating team will receive about $9.55 million from FIFA's $475 million prize fund. In addition, depending on the results, teams can receive more money.

However, the current collective bargaining agreement between MLS and its players stipulates that players can only earn 50% of their prize money from outside leagues, capped at $1 million for the entire team. This has left the Seattle Sounders feeling dissatisfied and speaking out.

The MLSPA also voiced support for the Seattle Sounders' protest, stating: "FIFA's new tournament increases the players' workload without regard for their physical health. Despite the unexpected extra money, MLS has refused to allocate a fair percentage. MLSPA and all MLS players stand in solidarity with the Seattle Sounders players demanding a fair share of the Club World Cup's prize money."

The 2025 Club World Cup will take place from June 14 to July 13 in the United States with the participation of 32 top teams from around the world .

There are a total of eight groups, with teams playing a round-robin format and the top two teams from each group advancing to the round of 16. Each group stage win will be awarded $2 million, a draw will be awarded $1 million and the champion will be awarded $40 million.
