Up to this point, many secondary schools continue to let 9th grade students come to school to review for the 10th grade entrance exam.
"Although Circular 29 requires that review classes in schools not charge students, we are still worried so we still assign teachers to teach students until June 5," said a principal of a middle school in Hai Ba Trung district (Hanoi).
Meanwhile, some secondary schools have allowed students to take time off from school, only providing extra tutoring for students who are too weak in their studies. Many students who wish to enroll in top schools in Hanoi’s admission areas continue to take tutoring classes at centers or study online.
Although the target for public schools increased by 2% compared to last year, out of nearly 104,000 students registered for the exam, nearly 38,000 students still may not be admitted to public schools. Not to mention, in the 12 admission areas, there are usually 1-2 schools under great competitive pressure. Students who want to get a place at these schools are very stressed.
According to Hanoi regulations, each student applying for admission to public grade 10 (non-specialized block) in Hanoi has 3 wishes. Of which 2 wishes are in the same enrollment area, 1 wish is in any area.
However, Hanoi also applies the regulation that the admission score for the second choice will be 1 point higher than the standard score for admission to the school and the admission score for the third choice will be 2 points higher than the standard score for admission to the school. Therefore, if students do not try to pass the first choice, the chance of entering schools that are considered to be of good quality will be low.
However, in addition to the four specialized high schools managed by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, there are also a number of specialized high schools and high-quality high schools affiliated with universities in Hanoi. The desire to enter these schools does not affect the three desires to enter non-specialized public schools.
This year, Hanoi organized the entrance exam for grade 10 with 3 subjects: math, literature, and English. The regulation of not multiplying the coefficient of 2 with the entrance exam subject for grade 10 this year limits the situation of lopsided learning but also becomes a pressure for candidates who are stronger in literature and math.
Hanoi has 201 exam sites for the 10th grade entrance exam for public high schools. The exam takes place on June 7 and 8 (for students applying for non-specialized subjects) and June 9 for students applying for 4 specialized schools in Hanoi.
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, from July 4 to July 7, the 10th grade exam scores will be announced on the Hanoi Department of Education and Training's information portal and the admission scores for public high schools will be announced. By July 8 at the latest, schools will receive the exam result notification to issue to students.
Students who wish to appeal must submit their application between July 4 and July 10. From July 10 to July 12, admitted students must confirm their enrollment (online or in person).
On July 17, schools that do not meet their enrollment quota will recruit additional students, and from July 19 to July 22, additional admitted students will confirm their enrollment.
On July 28, candidates will receive the results of the exam review and from July 28 to July 30, schools will continue to process student records after the review and successful candidates (after the review) will confirm their enrollment.
