Gathering from May 5 to prepare for the 2023 AFC U17 Championship finals, Vietnam U17 is currently stationed in Viet Tri. Evaluating his players after 10 days of training, coach Hoang Anh Tuan said the players have made a lot of progress but still need time to improve.

"In the recent past, the coaching staff and I have introduced new exercises and training methods to the players. This is the stage for the players to improve their physical strength before going to Japan for training, with the goal of improving their physical strength and perfecting their tactics, and playing some friendly matches," Coach Hoang Anh Tuan shared.

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan also affirmed that the U.17 Vietnam players watched the men's football matches at the 32nd SEA Games (including the matches of the U.22 Vietnam team) to draw lessons for themselves.

"The players have made progress, but to participate in a big tournament like the U.17 Asian finals, they need to try harder and work harder. The coaching staff also creates conditions for the players to watch the SEA Games men's football. Some matches are at the same time as the team's training schedule, so the players will watch them again in the evening to learn and gain experience to see how the seniors play.

In my opinion, attitude and determination are the strengths of Vietnamese players. The important thing is for the players to show their full potential. Remember, the players of the U.17, U.19, U.20 age groups are the foundation for the big and long-term goals of Vietnamese football. I want the players to show their best so that we can have a truly accurate assessment of future goals," said coach Hoang Anh Tuan.

According to the plan, U.17 Vietnam will be stationed in Viet Tri, Phu Tho until May 19 and move to Qatar for a 4-day training session (from May 19 to May 22) with a very high-quality friendly match against host U.17 Qatar, taking place on May 21.

After completing the short training session in Qatar, U.17 Vietnam will move to Japan to enter the next training phase, from May 22 to June 5. During this training phase, the team will continue to have 3 more friendly matches with Japanese clubs.

After the training period in Japan and returning home, U.17 Vietnam will have about 1 week to complete the final preparations in Vung Tau before moving to Thailand to attend the 2023 U.17 Asian Finals.

According to the draw results, U.17 Vietnam is in Group D with Japan, India and Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, host Thailand is in Group A with Yemen, Malaysia and Laos. Group B is a race between Korea, Iran, Afghanistan and Qatar, while Group C is a competition between Tajikistan, Australia, Saudi Arabia and China.

The matches of the 2023 AFC U17 Championship will take place from June 15 to July 2 at four stadiums: Rajamangala, Pathum Thani, Thammasat and Chonburi. The teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine their rankings in each group. The first and second teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals. The four winners of the quarter-finals will advance to the semi-finals and qualify for the 2023 U1.7 World Cup finals in October.
