Planting nearly 40 acres of fallow fields, a farmer in Nghia Dan commune earns hundreds of millions of dong per crop.

This year, Mr. Tan cultivates about 37 hectares of rice fields, of which, in addition to his family's area, the remaining area is abandoned fields of people in the commune that he borrowed to restore. "Before, I only planted a few acres of rice for my family. Since 2021, seeing many people abandon their fields and regretting the land, I boldly borrowed abandoned fields to plant rice. Initially, a few hectares, then gradually expanded," Mr. Tan shared.

The June afternoon was scorching hot. On the vast fields in Truc Cau village, Nghia Dan commune (Kim Dong), the glutinous rice flowers were ripening, shining with a golden color, bent because of the heavy grain. Few people would have guessed that just a few years ago, this low-lying field was abandoned, with grass growing up to chest height. Now, the entire area is covered in green by the diligent hands of Nguyen Van Tan, a farmer who chose to stick with and get rich from his hometown fields.

Mr. Tan's family's dozens of acres of rice fields grow a ST25 rice variety with high yield and quality.

This spring crop, he chose to plant two high-quality rice varieties, Hung Yen fragrant sticky rice and ST25. Thanks to favorable weather, few pests and diseases, and proactive mechanization from land preparation to sowing and care, the rice grew well, with a yield of nearly 1.9 quintals/sao. The total crop is estimated to yield about 70 tons of rice. With the selling price of fresh rice at the field from 9,000 to 10,000 VND/kg, the revenue is about 650 million VND, after deducting costs, the profit is over 300 million VND.

One of the factors that helps Mr. Tan produce effectively is the synchronous application of mechanization in the production stages. Currently, he has invested in 3 plows, 1 pesticide sprayer and 1 fertilizer machine. Sowing and transplanting by machine helps shorten the time, taking only 3 days to complete the planting of 37 hectares of rice fields. Harvesting is also compact and quick within 3 days. In particular, sowing the same variety over the entire area helps the rice ripen evenly, is easy to care for, is not crossbred, and improves the quality of the rice grains.

Not only serving his family's production, Mr. Tan also provides agricultural services such as plowing, spraying pesticides, and fertilizing farmers in the area with an area of ​​about 100 hectares per crop, both creating additional income and contributing to reducing labor for local people.

Mr. Tan said: Farming is not as hard as before, if you know how to apply machinery, choose good seeds, and take care of them properly, it will be effective and profitable. The important thing is to love the fields, understand the rice plant and persevere.

In addition to growing rice, Mr. Tan currently raises about 300 crossbred Dong Tao chickens in his garden. Thanks to careful care, the chickens grow well, and each year he sells nearly 1 ton of chicken meat, earning about 100 million VND.

From abandoned fields, Mr. Nguyen Van Tan has built a golden field full of seeds, becoming rich legitimately through modern and sustainable agriculture, an effective and worthy direction to replicate today.
