Best care for pediatric patients involved in incident at Nam Dinh General Hospital

On the morning of May 5, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan visited the patient's bed at the Department of Surgical Resuscitation, National Children's Hospital, to directly visit patient MTA and the doctors and nurses about the child's health.

Reporting to Minister Dao Hong Lan, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Minh Dien, Director of the National Children's Hospital, said that immediately after receiving the child patient transferred from Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital on May 3, the doctors urgently ordered tests and CT scans to assess the patient's condition. Due to an accident caused by a homemade tricycle running over him, the child's condition was very serious. The doctors performed emergency surgery on the child that night.

According to Mr. Tran Minh Dien, as of this morning (May 5), the child's condition has improved a lot. After 1 day on a ventilator, the child has now been weaned off the ventilator and is breathing on his own. The child has passed the critical stage. The hospital will do its best to provide the best treatment for the child.

Talking and encouraging the patient's parents, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan expressed her sympathy for the family's concerns about their child's health.

"We understand and sympathize with the family's concern for the child. The National Children's Hospital is a leading specialized medical facility, and the hospital's doctors are making every effort to focus on treating and providing the best care for the child. The family can rest assured, the treating doctor said that the child's condition is improving," Minister Dao Hong Lan shared.

Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said she has directed the National Children's Hospital to make every effort to treat and care for the child and encouraged the patient's family to feel secure and trust the doctors.

The Minister added that the Ministry of Health has requested the Nam Dinh Department of Health to coordinate with the province's authorities to urgently clarify the incident related to the reflection that "The hospital required enough money to provide emergency care for the child who was run over by a tractor" at Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital on May 3.

The Minister requested the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management to send a document to the Director of Nam Dinh Department of Health to urgently direct the implementation of a number of contents, such as: Reviewing the process of receiving and handling emergency care for child MTA at Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital, comparing with the provisions of Article 44, Law on Medical Examination and Treatment No. 15/2023/QH15 and current regulations; Strictly handling individuals and groups if violations of the above regulations are detected.

At the same time, coordinate with the National Children's Hospital to detect professional limitations (if any) and promptly correct them.

The Minister affirmed that currently, the Ministry of Health is focusing heavily on continuing to innovate the spirit and attitude of serving the people, many criteria have been put forward to ensure people's satisfaction with the health sector. In particular, there have been regulations in the law and many directives and directions of the Ministry of Health up to now: Emergency and treatment for patients are always the top priority, no matter what the reason.

To ensure objectivity, Nam Dinh Department of Health invited PA03 - Nam Dinh Provincial Police to review all reception and handling procedures related to MTA's case.

"The results will be reported to the Chairman of Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Health for appropriate handling. The general spirit is that if there are violations, they will be strictly handled," said Minister Dao Hong Lan.

Emotionally expressing his gratitude for the concern of Minister Dao Hong Lan as well as the efforts of the medical staff of the National Children's Hospital to save his son, Mr. Ma Tuan Anh - the patient's father, wished that the doctors and nurses would continue to care for and treat his son so that he would recover soon.
