Sharing his reasons for choosing the high-quality program in international economics at the Foreign Trade University's Ho Chi Minh City campus, valedictorian Phuc Hao said he had a talent for learning foreign languages, specifically English. In addition, he wanted to understand how the economy works and the relationships between countries.

During her studies, Phuc Hao said she struggled with subjects that required memorizing terms and policies such as international trade, intellectual property, taxes and the tax system in Vietnam, international shipping, and international payments.

"To pass these subjects, my method is to systematize knowledge and terminology using mind maps. I also try to connect what I learn with real-world situations to understand it more deeply and remember it longer. At the same time, organizing review sessions and exchanging knowledge with friends is also an effective way to learn," Phuc Hao said.

Outside of his studies, Hao also participates in The Glam music group, where he learns singing and stage performance. This helps him develop confidence in front of crowds. With the Business and English clubs, he organizes many events, thereby honing his teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and logical abilities. His active participation in extracurricular activities also gives him opportunities to expand his network with people working in the business field.

“I always pay close attention to lectures, take notes, read ahead from the textbook, and complete my homework thoroughly. Studying like that means that on exam day, I only need to review the key content. Besides that, I often study in groups to exchange and share knowledge with friends. About three weeks before the exam, I create a plan to allocate time and set goals for each day. I stick to the plan to achieve the best possible results,” Phuc Hao shared.

Besides the club, Hao also participated in real-world business case competitions such as: reaching the top 10 in the MT Kickstart Program 2022 organized by Skill Club, University of Economics and Law, Ho Chi Minh City; and winning the runner-up title in the NielsenIQ Case Competition 2022 of NielsenIQ Vietnam…

Phuc Hao, who became the valedictorian of the Foreign Trade University's Ho Chi Minh City campus with a GPA of 3.96/4, said this was a record-breaking achievement thanks to his effective planning. In 2016, he was the top-scoring student in the English specialized program at Tien Giang High School for the Gifted (Tien Giang province). He was also the valedictorian of the D01 group and the runner-up of the A01 group in the 2019 high school graduation exam in the same province.

In addition, Hao also won a silver medal in the 2017 national online English competition, and a silver medal in English in the traditional April 30th Olympic competition organized by Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in 2017 and 2018.

Besides being a good student, Phuc Hao is also very active in extracurricular activities.

Ms. Tran Thanh Tam, a lecturer in economics and law at the Ho Chi Minh City campus of the Foreign Trade University, said: “I first met Hao when she was taking the International Trade Transactions course. I also supervised her mid-term internship, a mandatory program for third-year students to gain practical experience in businesses. This student impressed me with her eagerness to learn and her active participation in class discussions. Her attendance, mid-term, and final grades were a 'hattrick' with three perfect scores of 10. That's a score not easily achieved in any course at the university.”
