According to the official announcement, OpenAI's chatbot is available on the Google Play Store, initially only in four countries: the US, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil. Other countries will receive a later release, similar to how ChatGPT launched on the iOS platform on iPhone and iPad last May.
Open AI's latest large language model, GPT-4, is being used to power Microsoft's Bing AI, a chatbot that has been available on Android for a few months now. Meanwhile, Google's Bard AI is still available only as a browser rather than a dedicated app.
Apple, the manufacturer that owns the famous iPhone, has yet to launch its own chatbot in the context of many technology companies releasing AI support tools on mobile applications. Bloomberg quoted an internal source saying that recently, the "Apple House" is testing a chatbot internally.
CNBC reported that data from Sensor Tower showed that ChatGPT and Bing app installs dropped 38% in June 2023, while data from SimilarWeb recorded a 9.7% drop in traffic to chatbot websites, along with a decrease in the amount of time users spent on the site.
