America Even though she is 77 years old, music legend Cher still has a youthful appearance thanks to her plant-based diet, mainly vegetables and fruits.
This is the diet of people living in the Blue Zones of Longevity, which have the highest population of centenarians in the world . Cher has been following a plant-based diet since 1991, believing it is the key to women staying healthy and youthful.
Sharing with People magazine, the Believe hitmaker said she avoids foods high in fat, because they often cause lethargy and weight gain. She also avoids dairy products, especially cheese, because they contain too much fat and cholesterol.
Instead, Cher favors plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, pasta and beans. Cher said in an interview 32 years ago that the most important thing is to give yourself a chance to "fight" aging.
“I don’t do drugs, I never drink coffee, I hardly drink alcohol or eat red meat. So I’m always ahead of the game,” she said.
Her food choices bear striking resemblance to the diets of people in the Blue Zones, which include Ikaria in Greece; Barbagia, Sardinia in Italy; Okinawa in Japan; Nicoya in Costa Rica; and Loma Linda in the United States. Scientific evidence has previously shown the health benefits of this way of eating.

A recent study from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, published in the journal eLife, found that a plant-rich diet helps maintain brain health. Scientists analyzed the indexes of 300 people over 18 months and came to the above conclusion. They were asked to follow a Mediterranean diet, low in processed meat, high in polyphenols. Plant-based foods such as walnuts, green tea, help protect the body against oxidative stress.
Researchers also found that losing just 1% of body weight can make the brain look nine months younger. The evidence was shown in brain scans of volunteers at the beginning and end of the study.
"The study highlights the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including reducing consumption of processed foods and sweets, in maintaining brain health," said Dr. Gidon Levkov, one of the study's lead authors.
Besides Cher, many other celebrities have also switched to the plant-based Mediterranean diet. One of them is John Goodman. He successfully lost 90 kg after following this menu.
After surviving a heart attack in 2018, director Kevin Smith also went vegan. In addition to regaining his health, the diet also helped him lose more than 22 kg in 6 months.
Similarly, Jacob Batalon, known for his role as Ned Leeds in the Spider-Man series, also lost 50 kg after trying out the Mediterranean diet.
