For many years, tea has become a key crop, bringing high economic efficiency to people in Hai Ha district (Quang Ninh). Many households have applied technical advances in tea production and processing, thereby contributing to the formation and development of many prestigious tea brands of Hai Ha with high quality, ensuring food hygiene and safety. However, tea trees in Hai Ha once faced the risk of extinction.

During the period 2014 - 2016, hundreds of tons of Hai Ha dry tea were rejected by the Taiwanese market after applying standards for fipronil residue in finished tea not exceeding 0.002 ppm. This is the standard applied to organically produced tea. One of the main markets "closed", Hai Ha tea trees were in trouble at that time, many tea hills were abandoned, with no one to harvest them.

Learning from the increasingly tightening barrier on pesticide residues, some businesses and people have decided to switch from traditional farming to organic farming so that Hai Ha tea is not only delicious but also meets market demands.

In 2021, on an area of 15 hectares, Viet Tu Construction and Trading Investment Company Limited (Hai Ha district) built a high-quality tea area and created a brand for Duong Hoa tea products. Accordingly, the Company applies organic production processes, regularly inspected from soil samples, water samples, and natural planting and harvesting. The Company's tea area ensures the strictest standards of Taiwan and Japan.

In village 7, Quang Long commune (Hai Ha district), Mr. Le Van Thang and local people established a high-quality tea production group called Ngoc Thuy with an area of 10 hectares. Mr. Thang applied safe and organic care methods.

Accordingly, all fertilizers and pesticides for tea are carefully selected by his family to be good for plants and do not affect the health of consumers. In particular, Mr. Thang chooses organic fertilizers and biological pesticides provided by the District Agricultural Technical Service Center. Therefore, the production process minimizes the impact on the ecological environment, improves soil quality, helps tea plants to be healthy, free of pests and diseases, produces quality products, and ensures food safety and hygiene.

Mr. Le Van Thang shared: “Our tea production team has been producing tea safely for many years, now we have taken it a step further towards organic production, completely without using inorganic fertilizers or pesticides. In addition, organically grown tea is more delicious and flavorful.”

Currently, Quang Long Commune has implemented many measures to improve tea productivity and quality, while building a brand and management system from production, processing to tea consumption, applying tea production processes according to VietGAP standards to ensure food hygiene and safety, ensuring safety for producers as well as consumers and the ecological environment.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Liem, Vice Chairman of Hai Ha District People's Committee, said that the district has implemented a comprehensive project to develop high-quality concentrated tea areas. Accordingly, it has supported investment models for intensive cultivation of tea business areas according to VietGAP procedures; allocated resources to repair, renovate and upgrade factories; transferred technical processes and processing technology; encouraged organic cultivation with new tea varieties with high productivity, high quality, and good resistance to pests and diseases such as Ngoc Thuy and Huong Bac Son tea varieties.

Up to now, the tea growing area of Hai Ha district is about 800 hectares with more than 2,000 households participating in tea production; the average annual fresh tea output reaches 6,300 tons, supplying 7 main domestic processing facilities and exporting to the Chinese market and Middle Eastern countries.
