A farmer in Dong Thap province earns 33 million VND/hectare from rice cultivation thanks to the use of biological pesticides.

On the morning of April 9th, in Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province, Map Pacific Singapore Co., Ltd. (MPS Company) held an event. Summarizing the model of "safe and effective use of plant protection products and the use of biological plant protection products on rice".

Previously, in accordance with the "Commitment to coordinate the implementation of the Project on the development of production and use of biological pesticides until 2030, with a vision to 2050" between the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection and MPS Company, in the first quarter of 2025, MPS Company carried out training activities for farmers and implemented models for the safe and effective use of pesticides and the use of biological pesticides on rice.

The model was implemented on 6.4 hectares of OM18 rice during the summer-autumn crop season at the farm of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Xuan in Hamlet 4, Thanh Loi Commune, Thap Muoi District, Dong Thap Province. The application period started on January 15th and the expected harvest date is April 25th, 2025.
During rice cultivation, Mr. Xuan sows sparsely, applies balanced fertilizers, regularly inspects his fields, and only applies pest and disease control measures when absolutely necessary, prioritizing the use of organic and biological plant protection products.

Mr. Xuan manages bacterial leaf blight using biological products such as Map Strong 3WP, alternating with Map Oni 2SL, which is both highly effective and environmentally friendly.

Specifically, nematode management in rice is achieved using a biological solution (Map Logic 90WP). This product helps balance soil pH, replenishes minerals, and promotes healthy root development in rice plants.

As a result, the fields within the model had lower rice blast and bacterial leaf blight indices compared to surrounding farmers' fields at various times after spraying. In addition, nematode management was effective.

At the model's concluding meeting, Mr. Xuan shared that, previously, he, like many other households in the area, only cultivated rice according to traditional practices, using only chemical pesticides.

However, by following the model, he learned a lot about new techniques, especially solutions to deal with nematodes that harm rice (causing slow rice growth and inability to absorb fertilizer). In addition, the incidence of blast and bacterial leaf blight was very low.

According to Mr. Xuan, although the harvest hasn't started yet, the estimated yield is about 8 tons/ha. With the current rice price of 7,100 VND/kg, after deducting costs, the profit will be about 33 million VND/ha (the profit for neighboring farmers is about 20 million VND/ha).

Besides good pest management, using biological products will help you spray safely and protect the environment.

According to a representative from MPS Company, in addition to the visible benefits, applying the company's process also significantly reduces the use of fertilizers and pesticides, thus limiting the impact on natural predators, increasing beneficial insects in the fields, and creating an environment for beneficial organisms to thrive.

Mr. Tran Thanh Tam, Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of Dong Thap province, highly appreciated the effectiveness of the model. According to him, the model has helped farmers save about 2.6 million VND/ha, and the profit is also quite higher compared to outside the model.

In the future, Mr. Tam hopes that the model will be successfully applied to the Project for 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice linked to green growth in the Mekong Delta. That is, the goal is to help farmers reduce investment costs to the lowest possible level while maximizing profits.

The model for safe and effective use of pesticides and the use of biological pesticides on rice, implemented by MPS Company, aims to help farmers manage pests in their fields using effective organic and biological solutions, improve agricultural productivity and quality, and increase profits in rice production.

To widely disseminate the process of applying the aforementioned integrated pest management biological products in rice production to many farmers, on April 9th, MPS Company organized a visit to Mr. Xuan's rice field for more than 300 dealers and farmers.
