Sunderland caused a huge shock at Stamford Bridge when they came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1, thereby climbing to second place in the Premier League table. This victory also ended the Blues' four-match winning streak in all competitions.
Sunderland were hoping to secure a top-flight finish after their best start to a Premier League season in eight years, but those hopes were soon put to the test as Chelsea took the lead after just four minutes. Pedro Neto set up Alejandro Garnacho, who sprinted down the left flank and fired a low shot through the legs of goalkeeper Robin Roefs to give the hosts the lead.

Sunderland gradually regained their composure and found an equalizer after a long throw-in caused chaos in the Chelsea penalty area. Wilson Isidor quickly finished from close range, sending the ball past Robert Sánchez to level the score at 1-1 in the 22nd minute.
The visitors almost took the lead when Isidor played a good pass, but his shot went wide. Chelsea then regained control late in the first half. Garnacho almost had a second but his shot was saved by Roefs, before Trevoh Chalobah fired a long-range shot over the bar after a decisive touch from the goalkeeper.
In the second half, coach Enzo Maresca decided to change the personnel, bringing Estevao on to replace Garnacho. Just a few minutes after entering the field, the Brazilian player had a shot that went off target, exciting the Stamford Bridge audience.
For the first time in the Premier League season, Sunderland, under the guidance of Regis Le Bris, played with a back five. This solid play saw them hold the game in the second half, significantly limiting Chelsea's chances. The surprise came in injury time when substitute Brian Brobbey held the ball and passed to Chemsdine Talbi to seal a dramatic 2-1 win for Sunderland.

The win not only moved Sunderland up to second place, but also extended their unbeaten run away from home against London sides to 14 games (5 wins, 9 draws). Meanwhile, with this disappointing result, Chelsea dropped to 7th place and are three points behind Sunderland.
