Hoi An ancient town is experiencing a flood due to prolonged heavy rains combined with flood discharge from upstream hydropower plants. Many central streets such as Bach Dang, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Nguyen Phuc Chu... are submerged in water from 1 to 1.5 meters deep.

However, instead of worrying, Hoi An people have turned the challenge into an opportunity, creating unique experiences to attract tourists. Cafes and restaurants quickly set up tables and chairs, creating new and unique "views" to watch the flood.

A coffee shop owner on Chau Thuong Van Street shared: “Tourists love to drink coffee and watch the old town during the flood season, so we have added tables and chairs to serve them. While selling, the shop also tries to raise the furniture to prevent floodwaters from rising at night.”

Not only stopping at sightseeing, many tourists, especially international visitors, have come to Hoi An to experience the feeling of wading in floods, or rent boats to cruise around the flooded streets, capturing unique moments next to the hundreds of years old ancient roofs.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh (25 years old, from Ho Chi Minh City) expressed her excitement: "I have seen the news about the flood season in Hoi An ancient town, but this is the first time I have witnessed it with my own eyes.

Renting a boat to cruise around the Hoai River to take photos, see ancient houses and then sit and drink coffee in the old town during the flood season is an interesting experience. For us, Hoi An is breathtakingly beautiful in every season.”

Despite the rising floodwaters, the old streets were still bustling with international tourists. Ms. Marine (42 years old, French tourist) said that although her tour schedule had changed due to the flood, this was a memorable experience.

“This was an unexpected surprise but it was a memorable experience for me. I felt very happy. I will come back to Hoi An to fully experience the ancient town in sunny weather,” said Ms. Marine.

According to the Central Hydrometeorological Station, from 9am on November 16 to 9am on November 17, the Central region recorded very heavy rainfall, many places reaching 200-300mm. Heavy rain caused floods on the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river system to rise rapidly, with the Vu Gia river exceeding alert level 3 and the Thu Bon river above alert level 2.

The meteorological agency warned of the risk of widespread flooding in the next 24 hours, advising people to proactively respond and closely monitor flood warning bulletins.
