Recently, the Ministry of Public Security has directed the launch of a peak campaign to combat, prevent and repel smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and intellectual property rights infringement for 3 months, starting from May 15. Along with that, the Ministry of Public Security participates in perfecting the institutions in this field, including increasing the level of penalties to increase deterrence against this crime.
Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan said that through the professional work and the struggle of the police force, the Ministry of Public Security has found a number of issues that are worth noting. Firstly, crimes related to smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, banned goods, poor quality goods, especially violations of food hygiene and safety, are becoming extremely complicated. The subjects operate on a large scale, for a long time, with very sophisticated tricks, taking full advantage of loopholes in the law and management to commit violations.
Second, counterfeit goods are now produced and traded in a wide variety of fields, of which food, medicine, cosmetics and milk are particularly worrisome - items that directly affect people's health. This problem not only affects the household economy but also seriously affects the quality of the current and future labor force.
Third, a common trick used by these subjects is false advertising. They take advantage of the images of famous people and prestigious people to introduce and market products, deceiving consumers.
Fourth, it is of particular concern that there are signs that some officials and state management agencies have loosened management and even assisted in violations.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Public Security will continue to direct the implementation of a 3-month peak period to comprehensively and deeply assess the situation of violations in the field of production and trade of counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, and goods of unknown origin, in the spirit of drastic, regular and non-formal action. The Ministry of Public Security has determined that this is a key task that needs to be maintained continuously and without interruption.
The Ministry of Public Security will speed up the investigation and handling of initiated cases, expand the investigation, and clarify all related subjects. The spirit is to handle them strictly, without any forbidden areas, and at the same time clarify the causes and conditions for the occurrence of crimes in order to propose the completion of regulations and close loopholes in state management.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, it is necessary to promote the role of Party committees and authorities at all levels in state management, while promoting the role of people in monitoring and reporting. The Ministry also recommends that people be vigilant and cautious with products advertised as "multi-purpose", "cheap", "miracle drug", and proactively report promptly to the police when detecting signs of violations for coordination in handling. Authorities need to strengthen inspection and supervision to promptly detect and handle violations.

From the peak period on May 15 to June 3, police forces at all levels have prosecuted 36 cases, involving 119 defendants, mainly for smuggling, trade fraud, production and trade of counterfeit and poor-quality goods in 24 localities across the country.
