Owners spend millions, pets line up late at night to be beautified for Tet

Many hotels and air-conditioned rooms for pets in Ho Chi Minh City are full and are not accepting any more guests. Some places have stopped accepting grooming services and only accept dogs and cats for bathing and grooming during Tet, many pets have to line up since the night before.

Luxury hotel rooms fully booked for pets during Tet

"My family has a cat named Tao, it is active and very affectionate. I consider it as my little sister. During Tet, the whole family had to return to their hometown in Da Nang , and we couldn't take care of the cat in Ho Chi Minh City, so we chose to send it to a pet hotel. I researched very carefully, choosing a place that truly loves the cats, has a good and professional care regime, to feel secure," shared Ms. Dan Chi (26 years old).

With only a few days left until Tet, customers are constantly contacting him, but to ensure service quality, Mr. Ho Huy Hau - owner of Haulambao Petshop - Grooming & Hotel - said he had to temporarily stop providing "hotel rooms" for dogs and cats.

"From the beginning of December, there were customers making reservations, and the number of customers increased as time went on. Some customers sent their pets to travel before Tet, so they will pick them up on December 29. Most of the rest sent them from December 26 to January 7. I don't accept more, so that the pets have a spacious living space, are happy and healthy," said Mr. Hau.

According to records, the service of renting "hotel rooms" for pets is priced at 120,000 - 300,000 VND/day, depending on weight, size and diet. The rooms are regularly cleaned and have cool air conditioning.

Food includes: mixed nutritional seeds (priced at 100,000 - 200,000 VND/kg), dried chicken, reward soup, boiled chicken, quail, dried beef, bones, pate... In addition to main meals, pets are also fed reward soup and snacks.

Before Tet, Mr. Son Hai and many other colleagues had to stay up late and wake up early to beautify the pets sent to the shop in Tan Binh district. Holding scissors and comb in hand, he carefully untangled, trimmed, brushed and shaped the fur of the Poodle puppy.

"It takes about 3-4 hours to bathe, clean ears, nose, mouth, and groom a dog. During Tet, some dogs are sent home the night before and only get their turn the next morning," Mr. Hai said, then continued his work.

After the pets are groomed, the store staff takes them to an area decorated for Tet and takes pictures. To increase competition, some stores even offer pick-up and drop-off services.

The full set of pet grooming services ranges from a few hundred thousand to a few million, depending on the size and difficulty. Specifically, the store charges 200,000-400,000 VND/kg of weight.

"Tet is the golden time for pet groomers, the month when they make money. Now they can't hire anyone, not even collaborators," said the owner of a pet shop in Ho Chi Minh City.
