Owner of torn lottery ticket in Hue wins lawsuit

On the morning of March 25, the People's Court of Huong Thuy Town (Hue City) opened a trial for a lawsuit related to the refusal of Hue Lottery Company Limited (Hue Lottery Company - PV) to pay the prize of a lottery ticket with a torn corner to Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet (residing in Quang Nam).

According to the representative of the People's Procuracy of Huong Thuy town, the lottery ticket that won the special prize 386552 was torn but the winning numbers could still be identified.

This lottery ticket is determined to be genuine, issued by Hue Lottery Company, not counterfeited, not erased, not torn due to objective reasons, so there is a basis for considering the prize payment.

Therefore, Ms. Nguyet's request to force the company to pay the amount of 2 billion VND is well-founded.

Based on the provisions of Circular 75, the representative of the prosecutor's office requested the trial panel to accept Ms. Nguyet's request, forcing Hue Lottery Company to pay the special prize of 2 billion VND to Ms. Nguyet. At the same time, Hue Lottery Company must bear all court costs related to the case.

At the trial, Mr. Le Trung Phuoc, director of Hue Lottery Company, said he would comply with all decisions of the trial panel regarding the case.

After deliberation, the jury determined that although the lottery ticket was torn and no longer intact, it was determined to be genuine, not erased or counterfeited, still had the ticket stub and was issued by the company.

Regarding the reason why the lottery ticket was torn, according to the jury, the fact that Ms. Nguyet kept the lottery ticket in her pocket and it got wet was objective.

Considering the above factors, the panel of judges accepted Ms. Nguyet’s lawsuit request, forcing Hue Lottery Company to pay Ms. Nguyet 2 billion VND in prize money. Hue Lottery Company must also pay court fees and related costs.
