President Vo Van Thuong arrived in Tokyo this afternoon, beginning an official visit to Japan with many important activities.

Welcoming the President at the airport and hotel were Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio and leaders and officials of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs . On the Vietnamese side were Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Japan.
According to Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio, President Vo Van Thuong's visit will be of historical significance and become one of the most prominent highlights of the year celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The visit also conveys the message that cooperation between Japan and Vietnam is not only a bilateral relationship but is becoming a relationship that can jointly contribute to peace and prosperity in the region and the world, Ambassador Yamada Takio emphasized.
Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu said the President's visit is an opportunity for senior leaders of the two countries to discuss and agree on major directions to bring the Vietnam - Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership to a new stage of development that is stronger, more comprehensive, more substantial and more effective, meeting the interests and aspirations of the people of the two countries, and actively contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

During the visit, President Vo Van Thuong is expected to hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and meet with the King and Queen of Japan.
The President will also meet with senior leaders and deliver a speech at the Japanese parliament, as well as attend the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations and a number of other important activities.
Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic relations on September 21, 1973 and established a Strategic Partnership in 2009. In 2014, the two countries established an extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia.
Japan was the first G7 country to recognize Vietnam's market economy status and has invited Vietnam to attend the expanded G7 Summit twice. Vietnam-Japan relations have high political trust, increasingly close regional ties, and common views on many regional and international cooperation issues.
Japan is Vietnam's leading economic partner, ranking first in ODA provision, second in labor cooperation, third in investment and tourism, and fourth in trade. Bilateral trade turnover in 2022 reached nearly 50 billion USD, of which Vietnam exported 24.2 billion USD to Japan and imported 23.4 billion USD.
