According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, at the invitation of the Royal Family and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,President Vo Van Thuong attended the coronation ceremony of King Charles III in London, the United Kingdom from May 4 to 6. On this occasion, the President met and exchanged views with King Charles III and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla took place at Westminster Abbey in London with the participation of more than 2,200 guests, including members of the British and foreign royal families, representatives of nearly 130 countries around the world , British politicians and volunteers from across the UK. The event was attended by about 100 heads of state from around the world at the invitation of the British Royal Family.
On behalf of the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, President Vo Van Thuong warmly congratulated the King, Queen, Royal Family and people of the UK; believed that under the reign of King Charles III, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will increasingly prosper; affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to developing the Vietnam - UK strategic partnership; hoped that the King and Royal Family of the UK will continue to actively support multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries to develop more deeply and comprehensively in the coming time; respectfully invited the King to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
King Charles III expressed his gratitude for the affection and deep concern of the Vietnamese senior leaders for him and the Royal Family; was impressed by Vietnam's achievements in socio-economic development and comprehensive and active foreign policy implementation in recent times; highly appreciated Vietnam's commitment to zero net emissions by 2050; emphasized that the King personally strongly supports cooperation in combating climate change; said that the AstraZeneca Group's investment of 50 million USD to restore forests and landscapes in Vietnam is very meaningful; affirmed that the British Royal Family and the King personally always care about and support Vietnam's innovation and development as well as the Vietnam - UK Strategic Partnership; in 2023, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, he hoped that in the next 50 years, the two countries will continue to work together to build an even better relationship.
The British Prime Minister said that the potential for cooperation between the UK and Vietnam is huge; the UK always wants to connect more with Vietnam; and thanked Vietnam for supporting the UK in the negotiation process to join the CPTPP.
On this occasion, President Vo Van Thuong also met and contacted President of the Philippines Bongbong Marcos, President of France Emmanuel Macron, President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of Italy Sergio Mattarella, Governor General of Australia David John Hurley, Governor General of New Zealand Dame Patricia Patsy Reddy, President of Switzerland Alain Berset, President of Slovakia Zuzana Caputova, President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of Israel Isaac Herzog, Vice President of Honduras Renato Florentino, Prime Minister of South Korea Han Duck-soo, Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of New Zealand Chris Hipkins, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and Secretary General of the OECD Mathias Cormann.
During the meeting with President Vo Van Thuong, leaders of countries and international organizations expressed their appreciation and importance of the good and effective relationship with Vietnam; and were impressed by Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in recent years. President Vo Van Thuong and leaders of countries and international organizations discussed and agreed to make efforts to further promote bilateral relations with countries and international organizations in the coming time, contributing to peace and prosperity in the region and the world.
On the afternoon of May 6, local time, President Vo Van Thuong arrived at Heathrow International Airport, left London, and returned home, successfully concluding his program to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III of England in London, United Kingdom at the invitation of the Royal Family and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
