President Vo Van Thuong meets with President of the Cuban National Assembly

President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez represented the leaders of the Cuban Party and State to attend the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of Cuban leader Fidel Castro's visit to the liberated zone of South Vietnam (September 1973 - September 2023) from September 24 to 28, at the invitation of the leaders of our Party.

On the morning of September 25, President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez laid flowers at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

During the working trip, the Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly will pay a courtesy visit to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and meet with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

He will lay flowers at the Fidel Castro monument in Quang Binh province, visit the Vietnam - Cuba Hospital and meet with leaders of Quang Binh province; visit Hien Luong Bridge, the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Special Relic Museum; visit the Provisional Revolutionary Government of South Vietnam Relic Site in Cam Lo district; lay flowers and plant memorial trees at Fidel Park.

Previously, on September 12, 2023, at the Fidel Castro Ruz Center in the capital La Habana, Cuba, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of leader Fidel Castro Ruz's first visit to Vietnam.

Fifty years ago, Cuban leader Fidel Castro was the first and only foreign leader to visit the newly liberated areas in South Vietnam. The visit, which took place at a time when the war was still raging, was the highest symbol of solidarity and strong support from Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and the Cuban people for Vietnam; affirming Cuba's utmost admiration for Vietnam's heroic struggle against imperialist invaders, not only for the independence and unification of its homeland, but also as a great contribution to the just struggle of peoples around the world for independence, national self-determination and socialism.

The commemorative activities in the two countries are not only an opportunity to review historical moments, honor the solidarity and valuable support that leader Fidel and Cuba personally gave to Vietnam, but also an opportunity to remember and show gratitude to generations of leaders and people of the two countries who have nurtured and developed the special bilateral relationship over the past 6 decades, as well as to educate the younger generations of the two countries to understand and continue the tradition of brotherly solidarity, loyalty, and exemplary Vietnam - Cuba.
