As reported by the People's Representative Newspaper, this morning, November 9, in the atmosphere of the whole country striving to achieve achievements to welcome the 14th National Party Congress, and excitedly celebrating the 95th anniversary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front's Traditional Day (November 18, 1930 - November 18, 2025), at Tum Nup Pagoda, An Ninh Commune, Can Tho City, Politburo member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the working delegation joined the people of Chau Thanh Hamlet to attend the National Great Unity Day in the residential area.
Can Tho still has a lot of room for development.
At the festival, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, delegates and people reviewed the 95th anniversary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front's Traditional Day, the position and role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in the revolutionary cause of our country; and listened to the Head of the Chau Thanh Hamlet Front Working Committee Nguyen Huu Thien. Summary report of the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas" in 2025 and directions and tasks to improve the quality of the campaign in 2026, associated with implementing the theme "Solidarity to build cultural life, preserve national cultural identity, towards the future, sustainable development".
Speaking at the Festival, the National Assembly Chairman expressed his joy at attending the National Great Unity Festival in the residential area with the people, monks, superior monks, and Buddhist monks and nuns of Chau Thanh hamlet at Tum Nup Pagoda - a pagoda with more than 400 years of history, where people come to pray for peace on every occasion of festivals such as Chol - Chnam - Thmay Traditional New Year, Sene Dolta Festival, Oc Om Boc Festival...
The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the fact that every year, the pagoda and local authorities have carried out well the bridge repair programs, supported the upgrading of roads, and lit up the countryside. On the occasion of the annual Oc-om-boc ghe-ngo racing festival, Tum Nup Pagoda has 3 ghe-ngos participating, attracting over 300 athletes to participate , demonstrating the solidarity of the 3 ethnic groups living together. Notably, in the 3 recent festivals (2023, 2024, 2025), the ghe-ngo team of Tum Nup Pagoda all won first prize - an achievement that no other unit has achieved so far.
The National Assembly Chairman said that after more than 4 months of merger, the two-level local government apparatus of Can Tho city has gradually come into stable operation. Can Tho city currently has an area of over 6,000 km² and about 4.2 million people. After the merger, Can Tho has more favorable conditions to expand the space for socio-economic development, ensure national defense and security and build the political system.
The National Assembly Chairman congratulated the socio-economic development results of Can Tho city, An Ninh commune and Chau Thanh hamlet achieved in recent times.
Of which, this year, Can Tho is expected to grow by about 8.3%, achieving the Central target of over 8%; poor households strive to reduce to 0.63%. An Ninh is a new rural commune, the material and spiritual life of the people is gradually improved; average income per capita in 2025 will reach 67.78 million VND, the poverty rate will be 0.99%.
Chau Thanh Hamlet has 1,119 households, currently there are 11 poor households, accounting for 0.98% and 24 near-poor households, accounting for 2.14%. In the past year, Chau Thanh Hamlet has strongly launched the movement of national solidarity to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas; launched the people to be masters, build bright, green, clean and beautiful hamlets; launched the movement to reduce poverty, not leaving anyone behind and the movement of national security in the hamlet.
Through reports at the Festival, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, the National Assembly Chairman acknowledged and commended the Front's work in Chau Thanh hamlet for going deep into residential areas and achieving many important results in recent times.
In addition to the achieved results, the National Assembly Chairman also noted that Can Tho city's development has not been commensurate with the potential and advantages of the central city of the Mekong Delta. The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that Chau Thanh hamlet, An Ninh commune and Can Tho city still have much room to continue to strive and develop.
The National Assembly Chairman also noted a number of shortcomings in local development that need to be focused on to achieve better results in the coming time, such as: lifelong learning movement, improving educational levels, improving people's knowledge, training talents; developing rural economy associated with production and business of households in the area; taking better care of people to continue reducing the poverty rate...
Improving people's knowledge, encouraging learning and talent: the key to progress
On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the Fatherland Front's traditional day, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man hopes that the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Can Tho city, An Ninh commune and the Fatherland Front Working Committee of Chau Thanh hamlet will continue to innovate the work of mobilizing people, go deeper and closer, especially implementing the direction of General Secretary To Lam at the Congress of the Party Committee of the Fatherland Front and Central organizations for the 2025-2030 term.
"Cadres and Party members of the Front and mass organizations must be the core, maintaining the "three closenesses": close to the people, close to the grassroots, close to the digital space; the "five musts" are: must listen, must dialogue, must set an example, must take responsibility, must report results; the "four nos" are: no formalities, no avoidance, no shirking, no wrongful performance of functions", the National Assembly Chairman emphasized.
The National Assembly Chairman suggested that the Fatherland Front must promote the movement " All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", promote the role of self-management of the people, join hands to protect the environment, build "bright, green, clean, beautiful, safe" areas, closely linked with the movements "The whole country joins hands for the poor - No one is left behind", "All people protect national security"...
The National Assembly Chairman also made a special note, "We must regularly grasp the people's thoughts and aspirations, promptly reflect them to the competent authorities for resolution; well implement the Grassroots Democracy Charter, and maximize the people's mastery according to the motto : People know, people discuss, people do, people inspect, people supervise, and people benefit ."
Along with that, it is necessary to diversify forms and methods of propaganda among the people; promote propaganda and dissemination of Party resolutions and State laws among the people so that all people live and work according to the Constitution and laws.
He said that recently, the whole country has made efforts to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for people. However, after the floods, hundreds of thousands of houses were damaged and had to be rebuilt. The National Assembly Chairman requested the authorities and the Fatherland Front at the grassroots level to pay utmost attention to the lives of policy families, meritorious people, poor households, and mobilize resources from the community to care for and help the poor and people in especially difficult circumstances.
The National Assembly Chairman suggested that Chau Thanh hamlet continue to promote cultural life, cultural lifestyle, and preserve the good traditions of the nation, especially among the Khmer ethnic group.
Emphasizing that "the key to development is that our children must improve their education level, intellectual level, and train talents", the National Assembly Chairman suggested that Chau Thanh hamlet, An Ninh commune, and Can Tho city promote the movement to encourage learning and talent for a developing tomorrow, movements to popularize digital education, lifelong learning, and ensure 100% of school-age children go to school.
Along with that, it is necessary to maintain security and order in the area, promote the role of self-management groups and inter-family groups so that the area is free of social evils, and does not use or sell electronic cigarettes or drugs. No one breaks the law, do not let bad forces incite, entice, or divide the great national unity bloc.
"President Ho Chi Minh advised: "Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success". If we want the people to be rich and the country to be strong, the province and commune must be strong. If the province and commune are strong, the whole country will be strong", the National Assembly Chairman believes that Chau Thanh hamlet, An Ninh commune in particular and Can Tho city in general will become increasingly rich, civilized and modern, affirming the city's position as the center and driving force of development of the Mekong Delta region, worthy of being a centrally-run city.
On the occasion of attending the Festival, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man presented meaningful gifts to groups and individuals in Can Tho city, representatives of Tum Nup Pagoda and dignitaries of Can Tho city, policy households, and typical households in the locality.
On this occasion, delegates in the working delegation also presented gifts to Khmer ethnic households; the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City presented 5 solidarity houses to 5 households in An Ninh commune; 20 scholarships to students who overcame difficulties to study well.
