Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc congratulated, acknowledged, praised and highly appreciated the efforts, intelligence, mastery of modern techniques and professional development of leaders, doctors, technicians, nurses and staff of Tu Du Hospital and Children's Hospital 1, who contributed to the successful implementation of human fetal heart intervention.
At the same time, he affirmed that the fetal heart intervention for a Singaporean pregnant woman is a very proud medical achievement, a testament to the development of Vietnamese medicine to reach world-class standards.
“This is a very proud and noteworthy medical achievement of the Vietnamese medical sector in general and the Ho Chi Minh City medical sector in particular on the regional and world medical map,” Mr. Duoc emphasized.
The Chairman of the City People's Committee hopes that the team of doctors, medical staff, and health workers in the city in general and the two hospitals in particular will continue to foster their capacity and intelligence, and promote the traditions of the medical sector.
At the same time, master advanced technology and techniques, conquer new heights in the medical industry; practice good medical ethics and the good qualities of Vietnamese physicians to join the city in "entering a new era".
Dr. Ngo Ngoc Quang Minh - Deputy Director of Children's Hospital 1 - affirmed that this success is the result of a well-planned investment process and the close coordination between many departments at Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital.
The fact that a leading hospital in Singapore proactively referred a pregnant woman to Ho Chi Minh City for fetal cardiac intervention not only demonstrates confidence in the professional capacity of Vietnamese doctors, but also demonstrates the region's recognition of the high level of technology in the field of fetal medicine in Vietnam.
According to Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai - Director of Tu Du Hospital, this intervention is the most difficult of the 9 fetal heart intervention cases at the hospital so far, marking a major milestone in the technical expertise and professionalism of the doctors of the two hospitals.
At the same time, it marks a new turning point in fetal medicine in Vietnam, not only treating patients domestically, but also becoming a destination for foreign patients.
Besides, the fact that Vietnamese doctors have approached, mastered and successfully applied this technique is a clear demonstration of the increasingly strong endogenous capacity of the country's medicine.
Dr. Hai believes that this is not only a technical achievement in medical expertise but also a success that touches profound human values, carried out by the hands, minds, passion and intelligence of Vietnamese doctors.
On the evening of May 30, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan also sent a letter of commendation to the team and leadership of Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital.
Previously, on May 28, the medical teams from the two hospitals successfully performed a fetal catheterization (25 weeks old, weighing 600 grams, with severe congenital heart defects) for a Singaporean pregnant woman.
Fetal cardiac intervention is a new and complex technique that not only requires extensive professional knowledge and sophisticated techniques, but also places strict demands on multidisciplinary coordination, professional ethics and courage in making life-or-death decisions for two lives, mother and child.
Currently, this technique has only been successfully performed in a few countries in the world with specialized and developed medical systems. Notably, this case is a citizen from Singapore, a country with a developed medical system in the region.
