Travel expert Yasmin Peckel has provided important advice to help us choose the most suitable seats based on personal needs such as wanting to get off the plane quickly or wanting to avoid getting sick in public.

The end of the year is one of the busiest times for the airline industry, which means that if you catch a flight during the peak holiday season, you will definitely not be able to avoid the hustle and bustle.

Travel expert Yasmin Peckel, representative of Blue Cruise, has given important advice to help us choose the perfect seats when flying. According to Yasmin, we should not choose the aisle seat to avoid catching diseases from others.

“Research shows that people sitting in the aisle are at a higher risk of picking up germs because you’ll be exposed to more people during your flight. If you’re worried about infection, consider moving to a middle or window seat. Airplane air is often circulated through hospital-grade filters, which are designed to trap and remove bacteria. And this means germs are unlikely to travel more than a metre directly,” she says.

Other ways to avoid getting sick on a plane include using a high-alcohol hand sanitizer to kill any germs you may have on your hands, as well as wearing a mask. Staying hydrated and getting plenty of rest before your trip are other ways to keep your body in the best shape to fight off any possible infection.

If you trust your immune system and want more comfort, consider choosing an exit row or bulkhead seat.

Yasmin continues: "Exit seats are only for physically fit passengers as they may be required to provide physical assistance in the event of an emergency evacuation. Bulkhead seats, on the other hand, will also have extra legroom. These seats are behind a physical bulkhead so no one will recline their seat into yours. However, be cautious if you plan on bringing a lot of luggage on board, as bulkhead seats often have very limited storage space under the seat."

Since airlines use different seating systems, it can be helpful to look up the airline you’re flying’s online map to find your optimal seat. “If you’re looking for a quiet flight, make sure to avoid the lavatories and galleys, as these areas tend to have more traffic, especially on long-haul flights,” Yasmin advises. “Choose a seat towards the front of the cabin, as it’s further away from the engines. Window seats are also usually pretty quiet. Avoid bulkhead seats, as they’re sometimes located near areas that parents with small children like to hang out in.”

If you are more concerned about getting off the plane and through passport control as quickly as possible, choose an aisle seat.
