Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen was born in 1975 in Hanoi, in a family with no one in the arts. She is known by many audiences with the nicknames "Thi Mau" or "Huyen cheo".
As a child, Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen often watched Cheo on TV and loved the lyrics, singing, and music of this traditional art form. She was discovered and recruited for training by the Hanoi Cheo Troupe early on, winning first prize for Young Stage Talent in the role of Thi Mau at the age of 23.

With her contributions to the traditional art of Cheo, at the age of 32, Thu Huyen was specially awarded the title of Meritorious Artist despite having only 13 years of experience in the profession. She is also one of the youngest female artists to be awarded the title of Meritorious Artist in Vietnam.
In 2017, Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen took on the position of Deputy Artistic Director of the Hanoi Cheo Theatre. In August 2022, she was assigned to run the Hanoi Cheo Theatre in place of People's Artist Quoc Anh, who retired.
In the 9th round of awarding the title of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist (2018), Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen's profile was unfortunately not approved to be sent to the State Council to award the title of People's Artist.

Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen married Meritorious Artist Tan Minh in 2004. They knew each other for 10 years and were friends before getting married. Each worked at a different theater and both were managers. After nearly 20 years of living together, the couple has an admirable family with two sons.
On television, Tan Minh's wife admitted that she got married quite late - at the age of 29. She also revealed that over the years, the couple have never argued or raised their voices.
"We have always been this warm for decades, nothing has changed. Married life will certainly have times when we are not compatible, but to be able to live together, both parties must adapt. One person trying will not succeed, it has to come from both sides. He still maintains his point of view, I also maintain mine, we still live with our own point of view without affecting family matters," she once shared.
As for Meritorious Artist Tan Minh, he once confessed on television that he doesn't often say romantic things but always gives his wife gifts on important occasions. He is also willing to wash the dishes for his wife and considers that a happy thing.
In singer Tan Minh's first solo live show, Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen guided him in practicing and performing the Cheo Dao Lieu piece. The pair of artists interacted on stage, creating an interesting and intimate moment.
Singer Tan Minh gave his wife compliments: "Thank you Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen for attending my live show. I wish you will always be a good wife so that my children and I can benefit." In response, Meritorious Artist Thu Huyen did not forget to thank her husband.
