(Dan Tri) - In October 2023, Nguyen Ngoc Huynh Mai (born 2000) was honored as one of the 22 best business students in Sweden.
Constantly striving to learn and experience, Nguyen Ngoc Huynh Mai (born in 2000) followed her family to Sweden to settle down at the age of 12. During her time living in Sweden, Huynh Mai always tried to study in the true spirit of the Vietnamese people. In high school, the Gen Z female student studied at Katedralskolan (Lund Cathedral), considered one of the oldest schools in Northern Europe, and also one of the schools with the strictest admission requirements in Lund. In October 2023, after graduating with a Bachelor's degree from Lund University and in the process of studying for a Master's degree, Huynh Mai was honored as one of the 22 best business students in Sweden by Nova (a performance-based assessment network where the top 3% of talents connect with each other). Most recently, the Vietnamese girl graduated with a Master's degree in corporate finance from Lund University, Sweden (ranked 75th in the world according to QS World University).

Huynh Mai's secret to studying is to focus completely on the lecture, pay attention to what the lecturer says, regularly study in groups to discuss and learn from friends, and avoid using social networks (Photo: NVCC).

According to the girl born in 2000, these encouraging results come from a very simple thing that many young people take lightly. That is, when entering the lecture hall, she always focuses completely on the lecture, listens carefully to what the lecturer says, and avoids using social networks. She also often studies in groups to exchange and learn from friends. After a rigorous application and selection process, Huynh Mai interned as a Co-worker Engagement & Programme Management at IKEA - one of the most famous furniture brands in the world in the Netherlands at the beginning of the first semester of her third year. What the Vietnamese girl learned the most from her internship here was being proactive and bold in expressing her personal opinions. "I never thought that my boss was above me and I was below him, so I didn't dare to give my opinion. I always considered my boss as a companion to help and discuss work. I have a manager in charge of assigning work, but if I want to do more in other areas, I can ask my manager. At first, I didn't do that much. Gradually, I learned the lesson that I have to take the initiative to do more work outside of the assigned tasks to quickly develop. I think young people shouldn't depend on their superiors to give them any work, they just do that work," she shared.

According to Huynh Mai, getting to know more foreign friends helps us have more memories and quality relationships, helps broaden our knowledge and enrich our life experiences (Photo: NVCC).
In addition to doing internships, the young girl is always ready to seize opportunities to exchange at universities around the world. Mai once had an exchange semester at Seoul National University, South Korea. And after completing her Master's program, she can go to work right away, however, the former student of Lund University continues to go to other countries to exchange and learn. Currently, the Vietnamese female student has an exchange period at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. In late 2024, she will go on an exchange at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Giving advice to young Vietnamese people who want to study abroad or settle down, Mai encourages making friends with students from many different countries around the world, observing what international friends do to share lessons and experiences with each other. "You shouldn't just make friends with Vietnamese people. Although there is a very good community around you, it will limit you to a safe circle. When we get to know more foreign friends, we will have many memories and quality relationships, helping to broaden our knowledge and enrich our life experiences," Mai confided.

Despite being busy with studying and interning, Mai still takes time to run community projects for young Vietnamese people (Photo: NVCC)
Busy but always making time for young people, Mai has also held leadership positions in many projects such as LUSEM Case Competition 2021 (Business Case Competition organized by Lund School of Economics and Business Administration), Lund Innovation Challenge (Lund University's largest creative thinking competition), Vietnam's Amazing Student (Social project development competition for young Vietnamese) and many other large and small projects. Despite being busy with studying and interning, she still makes time to run community projects for young Vietnamese people. One of them is that the girl from Ho Chi Minh City was a co-founder of Youth Opportunities - Opportunities to go out into the world for young people, a Vietnamese youth organization specializing in providing information about scholarship opportunities, internships, skill development courses and many other opportunities for young people to challenge themselves. To date, this organization has attracted more than 97,000 followers, helping many young Vietnamese people conquer their dream study and study abroad opportunities.

Sharing her experience of running a Vietnamese organization remotely, she confided: "The biggest difficulty for me is the time zone difference. However, the joy outweighs the difficulty. Because I get to meet and get to know young Vietnamese people. Through Youth Opportunities and other projects, I feel like I am contributing to the Vietnamese community and society, helping young people develop better."
Nguyen Ngoc Huynh Mai also impressed with her trips around the world. Just recently in 2024, Mai set foot in the Jukkasjärvi Ice Hotel in Sweden, then the US and Hong Kong. Or in 2023, this adventurous girl visited the island of Gozo in the Mediterranean Sea, Malta, Belgium and the Netherlands. Every year, Mai spends a lot of time admiring the beautiful scenery around the world. "I always try to combine travel with internships and exchange trips in different countries. For example, when I went to the Netherlands for an internship, to Korea, Hong Kong and Germany for an exchange. Unlike books, which are things I can see, traveling will help me learn many things from different situations in life and make friends from all over the world," she shared.
