The 2025 high school graduation exam will take place over two days, June 26-27. This is a special and historic exam, as it marks the first time the exam will be conducted under the 2018 general education curriculum while also ensuring that students follow the 2006 general education curriculum.
For candidates taking the 2018 exam, instead of six subjects as before, the number of subjects has been reduced to four, including compulsory mathematics and literature. In addition, students can choose two subjects they have studied at school (chemistry, physics, biology, geography, history, economics and law education, computer science, technology, and foreign language).
The official exam in 2025 also brings several notable changes. The number of exam sessions has been increased to two, and notably, each exam room can have up to five different subjects.
In addition, the number of exam codes for each subject will double compared to previous years, with 48 exam codes (24 codes per exam session). Previously, the subjects (except for Literature) only had 24 exam codes.
This was also the largest exam ever, with the participation of over 1.1 million candidates across all 63 provinces and cities, held at 2,493 examination centers with more than 50,000 examination rooms.
Approximately 200,000 personnel are expected to be mobilized to participate in organizing the exams, including officials and teachers from the education sector, police, military, medical, and electricity sectors, etc.
The Prime Minister provided close and timely guidance, issuing numerous official dispatches and directives regarding the preparation and organization of the exam.
Furthermore, organizing the exam presents various challenges and requirements, as it takes place in the context of the nationwide restructuring of local governments into a two-tier system.
