The foundation for a new era of educational philosophy.

On the morning of December 12th, in Hanoi, the National Council for Education and Human Resource Development organized a scientific conference titled "Educational Philosophy in the Digital Age".

Speaking at the conference, Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said: We are living in a period of historical transition, and the fourth industrial revolution has been profoundly changing production methods and lifestyles, impacting every aspect of social life.

Big concepts, the Internet of Things, and disruptive technologies are reshaping the world in which future generations will live and work. Our country must seize this opportunity and prepare for a new era of national progress. Education is also facing the need for reshaping to adapt to this new context.

Regarding educational philosophy, the Deputy Minister stated that Vietnam has accumulated a rich heritage and ideology throughout history, crystallized in practical educational and training policies; from the nation's age-old tradition of valuing learning to fundamental principles such as "Education and training is a top national priority." In particular, Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW for the first time affirmed that "Education and training is a top national priority, determining the future of the nation," establishing the position of education at a new level.

Along with that are the principles and mottos "Learning goes hand in hand with practice," "Teaching literacy alongside teaching character," "First learn manners, then learn knowledge," and "education for the holistic development of human beings in terms of morality, intellect, physical health, and aesthetics." All of these have created the core values that guide the development of Vietnamese education.

"We have also focused on harmonizing universality and excellence, preserving national cultural identity while absorbing the best of human knowledge, aiming to build a well-rounded Vietnamese person. This content is also clearly stated in Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW."

These valuable, profound, and correct ideas form the foundation for us to inherit and develop in the new stage of development.

"Our task today is to build upon those values, a new philosophical vision for education that is both relevant to the realities of the AI era and continues to preserve and spread national identity in every step of education and training," the Deputy Minister shared.

Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong emphasized: The philosophy of education in the digital age must delve into the essence of learning to always affirm that human beings are at the center of the educational process.

Education empowers people to take control of their own lives.

The educational philosophy we are striving for in the digital age is to build an open, interconnected, and lifelong learning education system; an education that shapes a generation of Vietnamese people with character, qualities, and the ability to adapt to digital transformation, fostering a spirit of innovation and creativity, and a desire to excel.

The Deputy Minister emphasized: With the rapid development of knowledge and information technology, we cannot simply teach literacy and knowledge alone, but must teach methods: methods of thinking, methods of working, the ability to learn and research independently; thereby enabling them to be confident, master their own lives, and become the "architects" of their own future.

Therefore, educational philosophy in the digital age must delve deeply into the nature of learning to always affirm that the human being is at the center of the educational process. People learn and research to develop themselves, not just to develop digital technologies or versions of software.

The object of our influence is not technology, not equipment or data, but people – people with their own dignity, abilities, and aspirations. Technology, no matter how advanced, is merely a tool. The ultimate goal of education must remain the perfection of character and the holistic development of the individual.

If we focus solely on technology while neglecting character development, people will become soulless machines. If we prioritize knowledge without nurturing moral values, we will create individuals without purpose or ambition. If knowledge is accumulated but learners are not trained in creative thinking, they will struggle to adapt to a rapidly changing world.

In other words, the philosophy of education must aim to train individuals who possess not only knowledge and skills but also character, moral qualities, resilience, and creativity – individuals who are confident in mastering their own lives and making positive contributions to society, regardless of the rapid pace of technological change.

Overview of the conference.

According to the Deputy Minister, building an educational philosophy in the digital age is not just a matter for the education sector alone, but a strategic issue of national importance, requiring the attention and involvement of the entire society. This is a shared responsibility of all of us.

From policymakers and education administrators to teachers, and scientists in the fields of education, technology, philosophy, and psychology, everyone has a role to play in shaping educational philosophy in the new context.

"The Ministry of Education and Training hopes that with the participation of numerous interdisciplinary experts, the conference will focus on in-depth discussions of many core issues of educational philosophy in the digital age."

This represents a fundamental shift in the nature of education under the influence of new technologies, especially AI; it encompasses scientific understanding of human learning processes in the digital age; and it includes the ideas and orientations for the comprehensive and self-reliant development of Vietnamese people, meeting the demands of the new era.

Specific solutions, models, and processes are also needed to integrate AI technology into teaching and learning, as well as into school leadership and management, based on a humanistic and modern educational philosophy that is relevant to reality.

"Today's conference is not only an important scientific event, but also a milestone in thought – a strategic dialogue on the future of Vietnamese education in the context of our country's strong development in the digital age. The conference demonstrates our determination to seek major directions for education in the face of unprecedented changes of the times," the Deputy Minister expressed.
