The semi-final pairings for the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games have been officially determined after Vietnam U22 impressively defeated Malaysia U22 to secure first place in Group B. Meanwhile, Thailand U22 is still awaiting their opponent, which could be Indonesia U22, Malaysia U22, or Myanmar U22.
The final match of Group B, held on December 11th at the Rajamangala National Stadium (Bangkok), witnessed a high-stakes clash between Vietnam U22 and Malaysia U22. Both teams had won their opening matches, making this encounter the group final, determining the top spot and direct qualification to the semi-finals.

With an impressive performance, the Vietnam U22 team secured a convincing 2-0 victory against Malaysia U22, accumulating a perfect 6 points and proudly topping Group B. This win propelled Vietnam U22 into the semi-finals, where they will face the Philippines U22, the winner of Group C.
U22 Malaysia, with 3 points and a goal difference of +1, is currently ranked second in Group B. However, their fate in securing a place in the semi-finals will depend entirely on the result of the final match of Group C between defending champions U22 Indonesia and U22 Myanmar, which will take place on the evening of December 12th. Both teams lost their first leg matches.
The scenario for the remaining semi-final spot is quite complicated:
- If U22 Indonesia defeats U22 Myanmar by more than two goals, they will surpass U22 Malaysia to become the best-performing second-placed team in the group, securing a place in the semi-finals against U22 Thailand.
However, if U22 Myanmar pulls off a major upset by defeating U22 Indonesia by more than 4 goals, they will be the best second-placed team and will face U22 Thailand, the winner of Group A.
- If the above scenarios do not occur, U22 Malaysia will be the best-performing second-placed team and will face U22 Thailand in the semi-finals.
