On the morning of December 12th, the Vietnamese shooting team competed in their opening match at the SEA Games 33 in the 10m air rifle mixed event. In the final, the pair Le Thi Mong Tuyen and Nguyen Tam Quang faced two shooters from the host country, Thailand.

The pair Sastwej Chanittha and Tortungpanich Napis were not easy opponents; despite falling behind to the Vietnamese representatives, they managed to stage a comeback and take the lead in the final rounds.

The final match unfolded in a tense atmosphere as the two Thai shooters consistently maintained their composure with each shot.

Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang started off strong, leading 6-0. But as the pressure from the home crowd mounted, the Vietnamese pair faltered, giving their opponents the opportunity to close the gap and take the lead.

The pressure is immense on the shoulders of sharpshooter Mong Tuyen.

The drama intensified as the Thai shooters took the lead 14-12, with only one shot left to clinch the gold medal. But at the moment of greatest pressure, Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang held their ground to tie the match, then turned the tables to win a nail-biting 16-14.

The moment the final score was displayed was also the moment Mong Tuyen breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a huge weight lifted off her shoulders after all the pent-up pressure.

Le Thi Mong Tuyen's breathtaking final shot brought an end to the tense points race, securing the first gold medal for the Vietnamese shooting team at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.

Mong Tuyen shared that joy and happiness overwhelmed her when she and her teammates brought home the first gold medal for the Vietnamese shooting team, contributing to the overall achievement of the sports delegation. There were moments when her hands trembled and her spirits dropped, but the shouts of "Vietnam!" from the stands, along with the trusting eyes of her teachers and teammates, gave her the strength to regain her composure. Thanks to that, Mong Tuyen executed each decisive shot perfectly, scoring the optimal points to conclude the breathtaking final match with a victory.
The Vietnamese female shooter also previously qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women's 10m air rifle event.

Tam Quang's opening victory also marked the end of her competition journey at this year's Games. Meanwhile, Mong Tuyen will continue to compete in the women's 10m air rifle event before facing a greater challenge in the women's 50m rifle 3-position event, where she is expected to continue to shine.
