Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang brilliantly defeated the Thai pair Sastwej Chanittha and Tortungpanich Napis in the 10m mixed air rifle event at the 33rd SEA Games.
Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang got off to a good start, leading their opponents 6-0. However, under pressure from the home crowd, both allowed their opponents to catch up and overtake them.
The most dramatic moment came when the Thai duo led 14-12 and were just one shot away from the gold medal. However, with their composure and skill, Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang ultimately won 16-14.
Sharing about the breathtaking "comeback" moment, Mong Tuyen admitted that she was very nervous standing on the shooting platform. However, the enthusiastic support from the Vietnamese audience present at the arena was a timely morale booster for both of them.

"When I heard everyone in the stands cheering enthusiastically, especially when I heard the words 'Vietnam,' I felt even more determined," the female shooter said. Meanwhile, her teammate Tam Quang was still overwhelmed, saying she felt "very nervous and emotional" to the point of being speechless after the dramatic victory.
Speaking about the moment when they were trailing their opponents and only one shot away from defeat, Mong Tuyen said that psychological pressure was unavoidable. However, for the sake of their team's colors and feeling the absolute trust from the coaching staff and fans behind them, both of them overcame their fear.
This gold medal is even more meaningful as it marks a significant milestone in Mong Tuyen's development. After this opening gold medal, Tam Quang has completed her mission at the Games.
As for Mong Tuyen, she will continue to compete in the women's 10m air rifle event tomorrow, followed by the women's 50m rifle 3-position event.
