The Vietnam Private Healthcare Development Forum 2025 recently took place, gathering private hospitals nationwide to discuss the story of innovation in private healthcare development - from policy to practice and opportunities for digital transformation in healthcare. The forum not only analyzed achievements but also discussed in depth the driving force for innovation so that private healthcare can go hand in hand with public healthcare in the future.

Open up new opportunities

According to the latest statistics of the Vietnam Private Hospital Association, the country has 399 private hospitals, accounting for about 24% of the total number of hospitals nationwide, marking a remarkable development of this sector. In addition to general and specialized hospitals, there is also a system of large-scale clinics, testing facilities and medical technology enterprises, forming a diverse and comprehensive private medical community.

With the new city of Da Nang after the merger, the problem of reorganizing the healthcare system in a large urban area with more than 3 million people became the main driving force for specialized discussions on private healthcare.

In early 2025, the old city of Da Nang issued the project "Developing Da Nang city into the core of the specialized medical center of the North Central and Central Coast, period 2025 - 2030, vision to 2050" with the goal of building Da Nang into a specialized medical center of the region.

Currently, in the old Da Nang city area alone, there are 6 hospitals, general and specialized clinics, and medical service facilities. Meanwhile, in the old Quang Nam area, there are 7 non-public level III hospitals with 1,140 beds, 37 general clinics accounting for 17.80% of the total number of beds in the area; the number of people examined and treated at private medical facilities accounts for about 34.6% of the total number of people examined and treated in the local health system.

Investment in science and technology

From hospitals such as Hoan My Da Nang, Vinmec, Tam Tri Hospital, Da Nang Family Hospital... to private hospitals that have established a foothold in Quang Nam in the past such as Vinh Duc, Minh Thien, Saigon - Tam Ky General Hospital, Saigon - Hoi An... along with hundreds of clinics and pharmacies, private healthcare is now considered an indispensable additional pillar for the goal of becoming a medical center in the Central Central region.

Continuously investing in technology and modern equipment, last June, Vinh Duc General Hospital (Dien Ban Dong Ward) officially put into use the electronic medical record system.

“Implementing electronic medical records is not just a technical task, but a joint effort to bring a more modern, transparent and safer medical experience to the people,” said Mr. Tran Cong An, Director of the hospital. “With the new system, all medical examination and treatment information of the people will be updated and stored electronically, allowing doctors to look up quickly and accurately and support more effective diagnosis and treatment.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Hung, Director of Gia Dinh General Hospital, said that the unit focuses on investing in modern equipment and expanding facilities.

In this direction, since 2023, Cam Le Family Doctor Center has been operating with a system of advanced and modern machinery such as 128 CT scanner, 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, Cobas 600 automatic biochemical and immunological testing system...

At the Vietnam Private Healthcare Development Forum 2025, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tri, Vice President of the Vietnam Private Hospital Association, said that digital transformation is a matter of survival and a driving force for the development of private hospitals. In particular, AI is an attractive field, creating efficiency in healthcare activities. Not only that, issues of data security, network security, etc. must also be given due attention.

Private healthcare in Da Nang is developing from general clinics, grade III hospitals to high-tech facilities. However, the Central region still needs more systematic investment, especially in digital transformation, human resources with technological expertise and strict legal training, to truly become a useful counterweight to public healthcare.
